Okay, I'm a technological dingbat who doesn't have an ipod and doesn't really understand what MP3 means but I think that's what an ipod plays, right -- MP3s?

Is there anyway to convert CD songs to MP3s? I want to choose specific songs from CDs, convert them, then throw the CDs out.

I have a lot of crap CDS which I picked up at the dumpster. (In my apartment complex, people leave stuff they don't want but is still useable by the dumpster). Most of the CDs are compilations (Hits from the 80's, stuff like that) and there may be one or two on a CD I like but I don't want to keep the entire CD for one or two songs.

If you have something like Windows Media Player or iTunes on your computer, just stick the CD in the CD-ROM drive and open whatever you use for music. It should say "rip cd" but you can also pick individual songs to rip onto your computer. When you save them you should be able to convert them to MP3 format.

I don't know if that helped any!

Most of the times, Windows Media player is set to default ripping to WMA format and not MP3 format. This can easily be changed by going to Tools --> Options. Click on the Rip Music tab, and under format, select mp3. Here, you can also select where your music is ripped to, but I beleive default in this is your "My Music" folder under My Documents.
