Why is she doing this?

I'll keep this short and sweet: Whenever I go outside, even for less than five minutes, Scratch runs to every door and window and won't stop meowing and crying. As soon as I come inside, she's all normal again.

Why is she like this? She's never done this before. Do you think she just suddenly got attached to me?

Yes, she wants to be with you. Or you be with her. My now departed Dickens kitty was the same way. It got so bad she'd yowl at the top of her lungs when I was just carrying in grocery bags to and fro the car. I worried the neighbors would think I was mistreating her or something. Well she was very devoted to me anyways. Always had to be "on" me in some way. Anyhow I never could break her that habit no matter how much reassurance, affection, talking to, etc I did. One partial remedy was to feed her while I went in and out of the apartment to the laundry room on laundry day. Otherwise I'd hear the yowls the whole way! Maybe others will have better ideas on how to distract her.

Wonton does that too...i always thought it was cos he was a stray at one point, and just didn't like being alone because of that? if he thinks we've left the house, he's ok, but heaven forbid we go into another room and close the door and not let him in-he'll paw at the door and yowl and just be desparate to come in and be with us. everytime i mop the kitchen floor i have to shut him in the other room (so he doesnt walk in the cleaner on the floor), and he HATES it. the whole time i'm mopping: "meow...meOWWW..meeOWWWLLLLL!!". and then when i go back in from mopping he's all over me, purring and rubbing up against my leg like i left him alone for a week. i just live with it...i figure he has a fear of being left alone again, so i can't really blame him for it..i just try to love him lots

Separation anxiety can affect cats too, though it doesn't get near the publicity as the same problem in dogs.

Unless you want a Prozac kitty, you can try some distractions. Sometimes bird feeders in front of windows where the cat normally watches you go can help. Leaving her with a special treat or some catnip may also help. If you don't already, make sure you leave a TV or radio on for her.

I think the best option is a playmate personally.

I'm on Prozac right now (actually fluoxetine but I just call it by the most popular name). But yeah, we have a tree right by her favourite window, and she loves to sit there for hours and watch the birds.

I really want another cat like you said.. I'm trying to convince my parents.

Rocky does this too. It started last year when we moved and we have a porch. Should we have the nerve to go out and use it he would stand at the window scratching and meowing. He evolved recently into meowing pitifully until you pet him and/he jumps right next to you. He also likes to jump up like a dog on my leg, usually when I'm trying to do something in the kitchen. I find it annoying sometimes but I know it's because he loves me and I'm honored. I try to give him the loving before he asks for it.

I'd like to get another kitten for my Russian Blue, preferably from the same breeder so Stoli has a playmate. Any ideas on how to talk my hubby into it?

The best argument is that two kitties are way easier to care for than one. Yes, the core expenses go up, so it's not something that everyone can consider, but in every other way it's simpler - as long as neither cat is a single kitty household kind of cat.

well whenever i go in the garage my cats always meow at me too. i never let them sleep in my room because one of my cats is very affectionate and tries to nurse on me. the vet says because he still misses his mother and is looking for someone to nurse on. Lol so they always meow at my bedroom door. I think its because you are probably getting closer to your cat and bonding with it more. dont worry them meowing at the door isnt a bad thing. it just means they love you and dont want to be without you.

mine does the same thing. I work nights and she has worken up the familiy a few times crying at the front door when i have left.

she was also a stay cat that i got when she was 3 months old. She follows from room to room. She will also go crazy if she cant get to me. She will not even go outside on the screened in area unless she can see me or the door is left open just a little. It seems like she is scared of being left behind.

there are other people in the house, but the only person she does this with is me.
