Sam's on vet food, both dry and canned, Mica eats what he eats (vet's fine with it) as, if I put two seperate brands of food down, Sam'll eat both, and it won't be good for his tummy.

Prescription (I guess that counts as "premium"?) diet food: Purina OM. Kibble and canned. The vet prefers her on wet, but weirdly enough she's never really liked wet food and will only sort of tolerate it when there are no crunchies to be had. So Spoiled Big Mouth Kitty gets her crunchies in the morning and a little bit of canned at night.

Thought "kibble" was originally from UK but may well be wrong. I know of very few around me here in the Chicagoland area who use that term...for what it is worth...

My three were just switched over from IAMS kitten to IAMS Multiple Cat - salmon. Occasionally they'll get canned as a treat but it isn't a staple in their diets.

Only Keef, the youngest, will touch human food. Sofia and Sabina turn up their noses to it. Sofia had a bad experience with snatching something off my place while I wasn't looking and that broke her of that habit. Keef, on the other hand, will go after an apple martini if given the chance (which is very rare!)...living up to her namesake I suppose.

Merriam-Webster defines: kibble

Continuing the KIBBLE saga......................its really intrigued me so........had a look in the dictionary, Collins Concise, and it has 2 meanings

1/ a bucket used in wells or mining
2/ to grind into small pieces

so there you have it !!

I've always considered the word kibble to be a 'technical' term for the small pieces in dry food.

According to dictionary.com

3 entries found for kibble.

kib·ble2 ( P ) Pronunciation Key (kbl)
tr.v. kib·bled, kib·bling, kib·bles
To crush or grind (grain, for example) coarsely.

n.
Meal ground by this process and used in the form of pellets especially for pet food.

If you'd like the super-geek def of kibble, here it is:

a. That which is produced by kibbling, esp. (a small piece of) coarsely ground cereal or grain.

b. spec. A type of dry pet-food consisting of small pellets of processed food; pl., pieces of this. Chiefly N. Amer.
Kibbles is a proprietary name in the U.S.

And it came from the verb "to kibble": trans. To bruise or grind coarsely; to crush into small pieces. Also absol. Hence {sm}kibbled ppl. a.; kibbling-mill, a hand-mill for kibbling grain, beans, etc.

[OED]

Anyways, I feed Zissou 1.5 oz wet and a half cup of dry every day (seriously, that's all she wants, there's always a cup of dry out and if I give her more wet she sure won't eat it.
