Well the babies are a week old now. We took Arlo to the vet and he has a small URI. He also had very, very bad earmites. He has been on antibiotics for 2 days now and he is already doing much better. The vet cleaned his ears with a water jet and then we had to put medicine in them when they dried. Can a cat go deaf from earmites? He acts hard of hearing. I don't think he is deaf, but I do think he is hard of hearing. Arlo has not been around the babies or momma kitty, he is not allowed in my room. He will not be allowed in there until he has had all of his shots.

I am not sure about whether or not they can go deaf from the earmites, but I know it has to be just awful for them ... the itching alone would be maddening, I would think. Best of luck with this little one.

If you ever had medication in your ears, you will know it coats the inside and makes it hard to hear. Add to that the "gunk" left from the mites, and I think it may take some time before you know if Arlo is hard of hearing or not.
