Hello all... ok, I'm new here.
I have a 3 year old male cat. I recently moved to a new house and he seems to have adjusted well. Here's my problem. I took him out of a house where I had three roomates AND there was another cat. The two were good friends and always played well together. Oliver (my cat) recently seems to be lonely. I live alone, it's just he and I now and I work all day. He howls a lot and is very vocal. Does anyone have any advice? Should I get another cat for him? Any advice would be appreciated!

my vote is to head to the local animal rescue league and find him a friend. I have always had more than one cat. If he is used to having a furry buddy than I am sure he is lonely.

Definitely sounds to me like Oliver needs another friend. I would get another cat if I were you. *pets to Oliver* I hope you are able to get him back to his old self again

Thanks for the advice. OK.. so Oliver needs a new friend. He's about 3. Would you all recommend a kitten? Or another adult cat? What about sex? Yes, Sir Oliver is fixed.

Hey sidney....I would try to find another cat that is close in age and temperment to the one he got along with. You also will want to ask the rescue group what their policy is regarding an introduction period (some give one week, some give 2 weeks, some don't give you anytime) or whether they have a foster to adopt option. Remember to take it SLOWLY....introductions are best if done over time.

Good Luck

Katie

What about the cat that was left behind? Is he/she lonely too?

If so maybe you can work something out and get that cat. In exchange you can get them a new cat. Or two. Just a thought.

I think he might be a bit lonely but he's a 1/2 outside/1/2 inside cat so he does ok. Anyway, there's no way my ex-roomate would give him up.
Good idea though!

I agree.. get him a friend.
When we had to put our siamese to sleep, and our cat Stinky was outside-only, our other cat Lucy acted like she was a little lonely after she was gone, so we started bringing him in a little. Now we have three cats, and they're all happy.
