I got my cat!!!! But it was the weirdest thing!!

I went with the intention of getting an older kitten, maybe 4-7 months old. I also tend to go for longer haired cats and while color wasn't my main criteria, I always have been partial to orange cats.

So, I go in, and my husband and I are petting cats. Well, here comes this sleek black and white cat. So, I pet him. I then start visiting with other cats. Well, Mr. Sleek follows me around the entire rescue place. Everytime I pet another cat, here he comes and jumps up and bumps up against me.

My husband said, well you should probably get that one, since he has obviously chosen you!

I wanted to be sure so I visited some more and my shadow accompanied me all over. Finally, I decided we had to take him! So, I get my carrier and call him over. He came running over and got right in the carrier by himself!! I've never seen that happen before. None of my other cats hated the carrier but they didn't get in it voluntarily either.

We got home. He checked out the whole house (I did close some rooms off) He is snoozing now like he's lived here all his life!

Sounds like he knew a good thing when he saw it and wasn't going to let you leave without him!! Have you chosen a name (other then shadow?)

Wonderful story!!

It is clear you were meant to be together!

My cat, still a kitten at the time, definately chose me, I had no choice.
I def. did NOT want a kitten, wanted a mature adult b/c they are hard to place, but, lo and behold, the only cat who wanted me was Smidge.

Congrats to you all!

My 8-Bit ran up to me and bit my toe, and then scratched my husband's leg. He then walked into our cat carrier and fell asleep. All we had to do was shut the door and take him home. When we let him out he sniffed everything like a wild man, then curled up and fell asleep in my lap. That was our first day with him. He's been like that ever since.

He is purring away!!! He has a very loud purr, kind of like an old man snoring. We have 4 names picked out.

Banjo
Bailey
Ripley
Charlie

I am leaning toward Banjo or Ripley since he is very sleek and long. What are your thoughts?

Post a pic! That will help with name selection

I like Ripley - for the believe it or not aspect of your story about how you got him (or he got you).

Actually, I like "Mr. Sleek", but I'm fond of titles.

What a wonderful story. I'm sure you and your new addition will be very happy, especially since he chose you.

It wasn't too different when I got Madison. While I was looking at other cats, they seemed interested, but I had one take a scratch at me. Then I took a look at Madison, and she was just so friendly. Rubbing up against me, purring, didn't want me to go. After I took her home, she had a short period of being scared of her new surroundings, but quickly got used to the idea of sleeping on my lap, and has slept in my bed every single night that she has lived with me.
