[This may need to be moved to another forum, if so please do!]

First let me give you the background info. My BF's friend's little sister found a very young kitten a few weeks ago, and she has kept it at their house. It has been getting food and water, but thats about it. She is gone most of the time, and the poor baby is left to hide in a room or run around with the family's 2 chihuahas (sp?). My BF's friend is trying to rehome the kitten, b/c he knows his sis is not giving it the care it needs. I have seen this kitten, and it is absolutely adorable (calico/maybe dilute calico). I would love to adopt it. But I'm worried, because since it has been left with the puppies, it plays a little rough. Will it be possible for me to break the kitten of this? Also, I don't know its health status because it has not been taken to the vet yet. I really hope either me or my BF can take it, because otherwise it will more than likely end up in a shelter. Please give me advice guys! I know that if I get the kitten, probably my whole next paycheck will go to shots, spaying if old enough, etc. but I think I could work it out money wise. I'm more worried about the behavior (and talking my parents into it).

If you can afford to take this kitty I think you should. You should keep it separated from your current kitty until it has been to the vet and checked to ensure it is healthy. Then you may have to do the introduction with your kitty slowly. I would think that your current kitty will be able to handle any rough play the kitten may dish out.

I'm hoping you can take the kitten to give it a chance for a good and loving home.

Yes, I really hope it works out so that me or Patrick can take her. When me and him talked about it, we were saying that whoever takes her, we will both help pay for spaying and shots. The main thing is going to be talking to my parents. I'm gonna go home Saturday night/sunday for Father's Day, so I'll start on them then. We have a week or so to decide...hopefully I can make it work!

How old is the kitty? If it is a smaller kitty than Marlee, I would imagine Marlee could know her a good one, for lack of a better way to say it. Twitch being very defenseless, can keep Lily in line simmply by her size & she isn't that big.

If you can afford to take the kitty, I say go for it. Provided mom & dad approve, of course.

I last saw the kitty maybe three weeks ago and it was very tiny. It had to have been no more than 4 weeks old when this girl found it. She told my sis that it will suckle on things still, which makes me think it was very young. My BF has seen it lately, and said it has grown but is still small, so that is true about Marlee being able to show her how hard to play/not to play. I will definately be talking to my parents about it tomorrow, so send me luck everyone!

I think you should take it..every kitty can improve it's behaviour with a patient loving person to care for it.

Best of luck with whatever you ultimatley decide

Oh, good wishes and good luck to get your folks to OK you getting this dear little kitty. She will need patience and tender, loving care for a little while until she feels safe and comfortable.

Oh you guys I'm getting excited! I mentioned it over the phone to my mom and she said it didn't matter to her. And I think my dad will say the same (I hope) because since I am working I now have the money to get her fixed and vaccinated on my own! I am going to post a pic of her in Furpics...

Well, I'm so sad now!
I just found out that the girl will not give up the kitty. So I'm just trying to pass on good info to her, hoping she will spay her and get her shots, etc. I don't know if this was a sign that I don't need another kitty right now, or if I should continue trying to talk my dad into letting me adopt another kitty. I guess I'll just see how things go.

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear about this, I know how excited you were to bring this little furball home to you and Marlee

I hope the girl is going to give this little kitten a good home.

Maybe you could check into your local humane society, there is bound to be a kitty there that will steal your heart!

Good luck with everything!

Aww, thank you Mackenzie! I hope she will have a good home too, I'm gonna check up on her every so often. I would love to adopt from a shelter, but the problem is my dad! He likes animals, but they already have one cat and my dog Maggie that lives with them at home, and I have Marlee that lives with me. What he said is he doesn't necessarily mind me having another kitten, but if I may be going to live back at home after school he doesn't want me bringing too many home. He had pretty much told me it was okay to get Ezekiel (the little calico kitten) because I explained the situation. So what I'm going to do is start looking at some info about what I will be doing after I graduate next year. If I think its probable that I will not be back home, I am definately gonna look around at some shelters. Again, thanks so much for your caring words and your wishes of luck!
