I'll cheer with you, Rigel. There are a lot of Mexican fans here, so there'll be dancing in the streets.

Although my husband is a soccer coach, he rarely watches any sports, including soccer, on TV. The only sport other than soccer he would consider watching is basketball.

Rigel, our county seat had a Latin American festival today, and I went with a friend who is originally from Costa Rica, and a colleague from Peru. I think all the people here from Central and South America will cheer on any Latin American team(s) that make(s) it into the semi-finals or finals.

Costa Rica was eliminated today, we suck!
I was wearing my Costa Rican shirt today, but I took it off and put on my D Wade jersey. Time to root for the hometown basketball team that are playing in the NBA Finals.

Rigel, I'll root for Mexico, and all the other Latin American teams. Go Mexico, Go Heat!

Rigel, what happened? 0:0! Hubby got bored and went to bed after 75 minutes. That was a great save in the last minute by the Mexican goalie, though.

I don't think professional soccer really "registers" much in your average American's mind. It's more a school sport, and I've also heard people say it's more of a "girl's sport".
Of course, baseball is practically unknown in Europe, and ice hockey and basketball don't get near the coverage they do in North America, although there are professional leagues here. There are some minor "American football" teams that get no coverage whatsoever.
Now I know you were just explaining about the football V Soccer thing, but GIRLS SPORT, oh heck, dont think David Beckham would like that...................but bet you dont know who Mr Beckham is anyway

yummmmm... Beckham

Its true though, over here, the only time I see soccer being played is by little kids at school (you know the ones where their shorts are still so long that they meet the socks and they look all awkward but so cute) and its usually girls because the boys like to play baseball.

Ummm rugby... whats the point when there is american football

and they play baseball and street and/or ice hockey

so soccer is kind of left in the dust, which is why its great that the world cup is on, I can catch up with some soccer

Of course - Posh Spice's husband! And didn't she mention that he likes to wear her panties?

The U.S. is still in the running. 1:1 against Italy, although they had to play 9 against 10 for half the game (tough ref).

Where are the pics, Fran? How was it (other than the score)?
Spain and Tunisia are playing in Stuttgart right this minute (current score: Tunisia 1, Spain 0). It's after 9 p.m., and the game is less than 15 minutes old. When I got to Stuttgart this morning at 7:45 a.m., there were hundreds of Spanish fans running around singing, waving flags, etc. I spotted two lone Tunisian fans. By 3 p.m., the situation was insane. There were literally thousands of Spanish fans celebrating in center city. You could hardly walk anywhere. If Spain wins, I don't think anybody in the city will get any sleep tonight. Everybody thought the Dutch fans were "boisterous" on Friday.
