I have been looking for a registered chocolate point siamese and I have not been able to find one in Saskatchewan.
I have most definately been able to find plenty of back yard breeders.

Is there anything I can do to stop these people, like reporting them to someone??????

Oh and should I buy a siamese who is not registered but claimed to be purebred. The lady I last talked to today said that she guarentee's their health and can trace back for 3 generations. Is this enough???

that depends on price. If you are satisfied with a moggie with all the looks of a siamese, and the price is not ´cheap for siamese´ but rather maximal for a moggie - sure.

do observe, you will probably never be able to do exhibition with him. Not in the siamese-class, and probably not in the moggie-class either.
Perhaps in the novice-class - but this is seldom nowadays.

You can probably show him at some local exhibition of home pets, as cat Siamese-type...

If you visit the lady, and everything seems clean and nice, the cats happy and healthy, the food OK - sure, why not.
But again. These are first rate moggies (at the very best), not good siameses...

so if there are two siamese and they have the same backround and the only difference is a peice of paper, one is better than the other?

Oh and because these byb's are fooling not so wise people into believing they have the "real" thing and charge an arm and a leg for one!

I don't think it is a question of one being better than the other so much as it is a question of whether or not you want to patronize someone you would rather see stop breeding cats altogether. By purchasing a kitten from (as you put it) a BYB, you are keeping that person in business, so to speak. She will continue to breed her non-pedigreed cats simply because she has people willing to buy her kittens. This only serves to allow her to make even more of those kittens so she can reap the financial rewards. And by selling those kittens without registration, she is not in any way, shape or form doing what is best for the breed, which should always be the prime directive in breeding -- not what is best for the breeder.

When purchasing a kitten from a breeder, there should ~never~ be an option to purchase them "without papers". A reputable breeder ALWAYS registers their cats.

That's a good thought to keep in mind!! I guess it doesn't really matter to some people though about papers or not if they just want a nice looking pet.

When is you next set due?????

As long as you are not one of them. If you are then you would be supporting her BYB behaviors and that is not a good thing
It is too bad for the people who don't care about papers and just want a nice looking pet because they don't realize the harm they are causing in supporting breeders like that.

Are you planning to show? Or breed? If not then why do you want a registered chocolate point siamese? Have you tried looking into Siamese rescues?? Or even petfinder.com for one? Not that there is anything wrong with buying from a breeder, that's fine, just please don't consider buying from this BYB!

Ifyou are looking for a registered cat do NOT patronize a byb and get an unregistered one - it will make you just as bad as the byb which you are against.

If the person can trace the pedigree 3 generations, why is the cat not registered? Or is she saying "I know the names of some of the mother's/father's parents." That is NOT a 3 generation pedigree!

You might have to seek a legit and caring breeder outside of your area if you really want a registered cat. You might pay more and have shipping costs, but its a lot better then to KNOWINGLY buy from a backyard breeder just cause you want a certain cat/color now.

Yes. The correct paper = pedigree cat, no paper = moggie. If you want to be kind you can add moggie pedigree type.

yes.

Your birth certificate and passport = good american and US citizen.
No such = bloody foreigner trying to trespass into the USA... (or Sweden, or whatever)

I would really like to just have one purebred siamese.

I'm most definately willing to wait until I can find one that is registered. I will not support BYB and I do want to support true breeders that have the breed's best interests at heart and not just a quick buck.

I've always been in love with chocolate point siamese. I would not breed but might possible show her/him.

I also do a lot of rescue type things with siamese type breeds. I have a siamese x snowshoe right now named Mittens and I am looking into fostering.

I just that it might be against a law to purposely breed unregistered animals.

If you are interested in getting a show quality chocolate point, you'd better contact a few breeders and get on their waiting lists for the right one. Tell them you are interested in showing in the alter class so they know ahead of time.

Its better to invest in a good show quality cat now (even if you change your mind about showing) then to get a pet quality and not be able to put in the show.

When I bred my rexes (most were showable) I asked if they wanted a show or a pet quality. Even tho they were show quality, many of then ended up as loved pets and never shown - but the potential was there if they changed their mind

Also, keep in mind that most breeders will not let the kitten go till about 4 months old - especially to evaluate show potential.
