Why can't I stay in bed?

Now that classes have finished I have no more 9AM starts, though I have to go into the Faculty this week for student consultations, exam preparations, marking etc. You would think that I would relish the extra hour or so this gives me in the mornings! But every morning so far I have been up before 6 AM, far earlier than on a normal class day, making tea, cleaning up, getting online, even doing packing ready for my final departure. Does anyone else have this problem of getting up earlier when you DON'T have to? I just don't seem able to stay in bed, even reading. The cats love it of course - they get breakfast earlier, except for Dushka, who stayed on my bed till 8 AM this morning, as if to set me an example!

Jenny, I get that a lot! Your body clock just doesn't seem to be able to turn off, does it?!

I do quite enjoy it though, as it means that I get a lot done and have spare time in the evening to faff!

I hope you can follow a little of Dushka's lead and have a slight lie in!

The cats house, we just pay the mortgage..
I do this all the time. I used to sleep until about 12 on weekends but I think its just a waste of my precious time off! You don't grudge getting up because you are doing things for yourself. Enjoy it, I quite like mornings when I'm not at work.

Yup! Your body gets use to getting up at a certain time. There are days that I wake up at 6:30 on a Saturday. Othertimes the latest I'll sleep is 9:00 am.

Hate to say it too, it also comes with age. The older you get, the less sleep you need and the early you wake up.

Sarah, do I dare ask what faffing is???

Jenny, I'm like that too. Everyday, whether I'm working or not, my body says it's time to get up at 6am. Now Tiggy would prefer I get up at 4 to feed him, but I have to be keep telling him to go away........he just lays down next to my head and stares at me then!

Faffing about is an old English term for taking a long time to not do very much!

I hear all you say, but the thing that is interesting is that last week I would have loved to stay in bed as long as possible, and usually got up at the last minute or when the cats simply would not let me stay in bed any longer. This week, when I do not need to, I seem to want to get up when I wake, which is very early. It is strange. I can't have aged that much in a week!!

I will need to make two trips, one with my stuff and one with the cats, starting July 5th ( to make the TCS UK meet-up on the 8th!). I hope to have the move complete by July 15th. I have invited 10 of my students to come in August so I have to have beds ready for them by then.
