I finally named my kitty a few days ago after playing with names for about a week. I named her Kinsey after Dr. Alfred Kinsey, the zoologist and world renound sex researcher. We studied him in psych last semester and I was completely fascinated. I wanted to be a sex therapist for like 2 weeks after that (i'm over it now). The movie "Kinsey" was really good too. Anyway even though I already named my cat I was interested to know what you guys have named your cats and why.

Oliver came from two places "Oliver and Company" the Disney movie and "Oliver Twist" since he was a street kitty and kinda skinny when he was found... the name suits him as he's always lookin for "some more" treats, lol.... he doesn't overeat (he's freefed dry kibble) but when it comes to his cookies, I bet he'd keep eating as long as I offered them!

Chosen names are great, but be prepared to call them something else (nickname, something to fit their personality etc.). All our cats were given 'original' names that we gave to the vet, yet inevitably as years go by, we end up calling them something else, then have to 'remember' what the original name was when we take them to the vet

(original name reason nickname)
LT = Lawrence Taylor Bomba
Panni grey colour = the Grey
Bandit = eye shading Dites
Tsuki Sweetsi
Misha Mimi
Beezer = Van Biesbruck Bebe

8-Bit was named after the classic video game systems in our house, and Scratch Fury Destroyer of Worlds was named after the cat in a web comic.

I won't post what I think about Dr. Kinsey!

Anyway most of my cats are/were show cats and their registered names all started with "T" as my cattery is TC Cattery.

My current cats are Spooky (retired cornish rex - registered name "Top Secret"). The Top Secret was that no one (show people) knew I was getting a top quality rex to show at the time. He got the nickname "Spooky" from my ex-husband - cat was all white and he said something to the effect "his name should be spooky cause he looks like a ghost". We also call him "Spooky man" too

Ling is my magic color changing cat. When born she and her 2 sisters and 2 brothers were all blue tabbys with white but had darker point color on ears, tail, face, legs. As they grew, the points turned into seal point and the body still was blue tabby. By the time they were about 4 months old the entire body changed to black (with the white). You can still see some of the faint point color in the right light.

Since they were pointed kittens, they had to have more oriental names. Ling is really Ling Ling; her sisters (adopted together) were Ying and Yang and her brothers (adopted together) were Ping and Pong
And btw each kitten knew its name! - They all had slightly different markings with the white to tell apart.

Awh, I really love hearing how we name our babies !! so heres mine

Dino - from the Flinstones, cos I so..ooooo love the baby dinosaur
nickname, Big Guy, cos, well he´s a fat un now ! .......and greedy

Pepsi, was her name when we rescued her (she belonged to my neighbours boyfriend who lived in a flat, said it wasnt fair to keep her locked up, so was gonna put her down !!! ) No chance with me around, her pawpads were so soft, cos she´d never been out, after a week or so settling in with us, she was off, out and about, her pawpads are well worn in now !
Nickname Princess Pepsi

Last one (and youngest ) Moofi, well this is a long one, she was a rescue and they called her Matthew, cos she looked like another cat who was called Matthew that didnt survive. Her 1st foster parents called her Maafoo, which sounds like a fly spray to me, so did´nt like that ! Slowly Maafoo became Moofi, which we all love.
Nickname ... Miss Fifi....or ...Doofs

Hee hee!

Tigerlilly is officially known as Tilly - but when she's being all aloof and frosty - I find it highly amusing to call her bucket - to bring her back down to earth!

I also call her Pumpkin a lot - not sure why as she's not even orange!

I also had an Indigo (who's pedigree name was Merryboys Balderick?!) - he was Indigo because he was a persian blue - and was Indie for short - reminded me of Indiana Jones!

I love the name Scratch Fury Destroyer of The Worlds! I hope he doesn't live up to it

LOL Scratch does not live up to his name! My husband and I like naming cats after things they aren't. Scratch is shy, slow to come around, and a love monster he finally gets to know you.

I've been told that my cats have funny names, but I don't see it.

Spike: named after a character from Buffy the vampire slayer
Phoebe: after charmed, I also had her sister Piper, but she ran away.

Gigi: after one of my favorite tennis players
Eliza: I have no idea why, it just came to me and she became Eliza, only I usually I call her stinker and I'm sure you can guess why.

Harry, Neville, Cho, and Weasley: Harry Potter names
Dixie: after the dixie chicks cause she is blond and is really scrappy
Seamus: I just continued the Harry Potter theme after I found him.

Some of these babies are going to get other names when they move to their new homes. Cho's new name is Izzy Cho, they kept the Cho in there for me. Neville goes to his new home tomorrow, and I don't know which kitten my mom is choosing, but she is keeping the name.

Let's see if I can remember all the cat's we've had either fostered or I had as a child:

1. Sammy--Orange and White
2. Miss Kitty (not too original I'll give it that)--Tortie girl my dad used to torture.
3. Tiger--Standard stray tabby cat, he liked to give hugs. (poisoned by the neighbor)
4. Bootsie--Black and White (ran over by same neighbor).
5. Striper--another stray that came by, thought it was a boy kitty...nope...she popped out 4 kittens.
-Simon--brown tabby and white, very quiet.
-Scarlet--Only female in the litter, tortie but with more red than any other coloring hence the name.
-Socks--Black with darker tabby stripes and white feet.
-Reveire--as in Paul Revere (he was the cryer)

All the kittens save Striper and Reveire found homes. One day both of them disappeared, I think my parents dumped them somewhere.

Then we got Sparky, he was already named and we got him from a petstore. About a year later my folks got Bertram...both of them were standard tabbies.

Sparky passed away 2 years ago.

As an adult I've had a Calico Kitten named Jasmine, my ex killed her by throwing her against a wall.

I was given a calico after I moved to MD by my base housing neighbor's, her name was Cody. She passed away after she got a tooth abscess...it was removed but no one noticed that the infection was actually in the bone until she had a seizure and suddenly passed.

We've had tons of fosters cause living in base housing alot of folks dump their cats.... and we would take them in.

These are all foster's we've had.

1. Raven--Black and white
2. Ariel--Black and white, kitten born to feral.
3. Rascal--Appleheaded Siamese we kept for a time.
4. Austin--Orange Tabby
5. Hobbes--9 day old baby we bottle fed for a short time.
6. Calvin, Boo, Patch, and Phantom--four feral kittens we took in and then found homes, I've posted pics of them as well.

Each was named based on both their markings and their personality. Both Boo and Phantom was skittish for a while. Hence their names.

The momma cat is prolly still spitting them out, we could never capture her. We tried.

Since then we've moved, twice and am now working on the third.

Pearl and Pandora are our family kitties...not fosters. Since the rental place will only really allow us one cat. Once we are able to buy our own home...I may actually foster cats again.

We like the odd names too.

My husband named Zakk when we found out he was a boy for sure. Zakk Wylde is Ozzy's guitarist. I liked the name so agreed, and it fits him. He wanted to name him Randy after Ozzy's first guitarist but I said no, having known a human Randy.
When we knew we were getting a new kitten we came up with a list of possible names. Rocky was the one name we both thought was cool. Hubby is a fan of The Rock, and we are always calling people jabronis.. also Rocky sometimes acts like one anyway. He isn't tough like the rock, but he loves to wrestle the other cats.
The other two didn't exactly have names until they went to the vet. A friend was gonna take cookie so we used the name she wanted, Jelly, and actually called him that for like a month. The vet needed a name for the girl, so I just looked at her and decided her name was Suzie, just out of thin air. I think of shyness sometimes with that name. Hubby didn't have much to say about that one.
When it became apparent that our friend was not going to take Jelly and we were going to keep him we decided to rename him as we thought that name was stupid. I think Hubby reccommended Cookie as we both like cookie monster and like to eat the real thing. He is also nicknamed cookie-puss. He looks a lot like puss in the shrek 2 movie.

Well, I don't feel so geeky anymore. hehe.
Years ago, I named my parrot after Jacques Cousteau.

Most people called him Jacq, pronounced like "Jack" though.

My cats are named Nikita and Amoreena. Both Elton John songs.

My cats name is Princess. The reason I named her that was because when I first got her she wanted to do what she wanted to do. She wanted alot of attention and i mean alot and the way she walked with her head held high and the way she laid and sat reminded me of a princess, so thats why I named her princess, plus every girl is a princess in there on way,

I almost named Joshua Oliver after Oliver Twist because I was reading the book when I got him. However, I had also recently read a book about US-Nicaragua relations in the 1980s so the name Oliver also reminded me of Oliver North and there was no way I would name my cat after him!
Instead, Joshua was named after the little boy in the movie "Life is Beautiful"
