Ok after reading Spooks thread I am scared to give my kittens away. How would I adopt them out and get a 'fee' from it. Also would I have to give them thier shots spay/neuter them to do this? I can't afford all that I don't think will have to do some research. But I hate the idea of giving one of these precious things away to someone who means harm to it. I'm so nervous now

Good article:

http://www.cathobbyist.com/articles/...yist/Free.html

You can also find a PDF called "how to find homes for homeless pets" here:

http://www.natewood.net/Rehome.html

It has information on how to place an ad as well as a sample contract.

Oftentimes, if you can find a low cost clinic that is willing to perform pediatric spay/neuter...have the adoptor pick up the kitten once the procedure has been performed. Make sure they pay in advance.

Thank you for the sites and info. I hope I can do this, but I live in a small area and am not sure anyone would be willing to pay a fee to adopt them. If that is not possible what would any of you suggest me do?? I'm really worried that adopting/giving away is going to be a problem when it comes down to it

I think, if worse come to worse, you could do a free to home, BUT if you did I HIGHLY suggest that you ask these people a TON of questions:

"What are your views on declawing?"
"Do you plan on having them in or outdoor?"
"Can I come see the cat whenver?"

Ok my mind is fried, the others could tell you more ?'s to ask. But I would look at the people's other animals, and possibly ask that the kitten goes to a home that already has a cat/kitten, that way you can ask to see their feline and see what shape it is in and how well they care for cats. Also you would know that the kitten would have a friend-everyone loves friends!

At the very least, you should charge the cost of the spay/neuter. The owner would have to pay this fee anyways.

Most people who are looking to adopt expect to pay an adoption fee. Personally, as a potential adopter, I'd be very wary of a "free" animal.

One option is to call a rescue, and see if you can surrender them to the (no-kill) rescue. Then they will have the potential adopters complete an application form before adopting them out. Also, they kittens will get their vaccinations and spay/neuter so you will be sure they never have kittens. I foster for a rescue, and there is no way as an individual that I could screen adopters as well as they do.

Ok..here is a little twist on what Beckiboo is recommending...I would reach out to local rescue groups, state that you are willing to foster the kittens and could the rescue group post a courtesy ad for you. Additionally, would they be willing to allow you to bring the kittens to an adoption event. They could charge their normal fee and they would not have to board the kittens at their facility. It's worth a shot.

Once you do it it is actually only paying 1 fee... maybe 2
See what ya spend one Kitten 1 is 40 do a 40.00 adoption fee... Then it goes tot he next kitten and so on... You willl not get a profit but to me that is ok I would feel guilty if I did,....

I understand where you are coming from because I too live in an area where people don't expect to pay a fee for a kitten coming from a private home. I am adopting out three of my kittens, my solution to the problem, I'm only adopting them out to people I know. My first kitten went to live with my boss, who already has two kittens, and I know would provide a good home. My sister's friend from work who also has two cats already is taking one, and my mom and dad are getting one. If you don't know anyone who wants one, interview the people who are calling. Find out everything you can, and make them sign a contract. I've had someone take my phone number before and call me just to check on the kittens and see how they were after I had adopted them. If they truly love cats and want a kitten I don't think they mind a future phone call.
