.....like when your significant other is gone? Just wondering because my boyfriend is leaving tomorrow for Bonaroo and will be gone til like late Sunday night, and I'm already getting sad about it! I would like to get together with my friends, but there is not many of us who are in town for the summer (I stayed in my college town) and those of us who did are all working different schedules. Atleast I am working tomorrow and either Thursday/Friday so that will take up some time. I just don't wanna let myself sit around and get depressed! Any ideas? (Besides munching on food, I'm already trying to lose the weight I've gained the past month of so)

I had a very hard time with this when my fiance left town for 4 days last year. We hadn't spent a night apart in almost 7 years.
I redecorated the house. I went to Garden Ridge and a few other craft stores and bought things to decorate. I got candle holders, picture frames, vases w/ flowers etc. Then I made an effort to touch up paint, and do other misc. work. It kept me busy while he was away, and made me excited for him to return so he could see all the work I did
Also, you could plan to have a nice dinner ready when he returns home. It will keep you busy that evening. You will more than likely have all the housework completed by then, so preparing dinner keeps you from staring at the clock eagerly anticipating the time to pick him up

My husband travels quite a lot with his work (although why a software developer must travel is beyond me). Oooh, that makes it sound like he's having an affair, doesn't it? He's not, he really has to go.
I have two small children, so they keep me busy during the day, but at night I get pretty lonely. Usually my mother, sister, neighbor will come over, or I'll go to the neighbors armed with my baby monitor. I find that a few drinks makes the night go by faster and its easier to fall asleep alone!

my BF is usually only gone for a night or two at a time so I spend the first night having a night in, bubble bath, chocolate etc and the second night I usually just tidy up etc so we have time together when he gets back

He said he isn't allowed to travel for more than a few days anymore, last time he came back to the livingroom and bedroom being rearranged, the bathroom painted and I had spent $200 on clothes because 'i was bored and needed to go shopping to do something'

Usually when John goes out for a night and I'm alone I'll go to the YMCA for awhile and then rent a good chick flick or 2 that I haven't seen yet, or watch all my seasons of FRIENDS (that he really hates to watch
) and watch it along with some chocolate or good take out

A lot of the times tho, I end up getting out my scrapbooking stuff and getting caught up on that, I can make a big mess and I don't have to worry about him walking thru it or getting bored while I'm keeping myself busy!

Last time he was gone, I went out and bought some flowers, cleaned up the patio. rearranged our closets and did a little bit of good cleaning that wouldn't have gotten done if he was around, cuz we always end up leaving and doing something with friends if he's around!

I hope you find something to keep yourself busy while he's gone - enjoy the time alone and do something fun for yourself!

I'll usually pop in Sex & The City DVD if the girls aren't around, and have a cocktail or wine with cheesecake or something sinful!

I'm home alone two nights a week when my husband is in classes, and starting Thursday, I'll be on my own (elsewhere, not at home) for more than two months. I spend a lot of time catching up on books I've been meaning to read, I chat with friends (IRL and online), and I watch lots of chick flicks that he won't watch with me.
Good excuse to finally check those out!

Thanks for the suggestions everybody! The chick flick idea is a great one, he is adamant about not watching those with me.
The apartment is actually already pretty clean because I've been working during the week and gone home to my parents place for various reasons the past several weekends so theres been no time to dirty it up! But my car could use a good cleaning if the weather cooperates....I'm also thinking about doing a little shopping for "girly items" since I got my first paycheck last week. What I buy might be something we can both enjoy
I also might go home for the day sunday to see dad....we'll see. But thanks so much, this site it like have hundreds of extra girlfriends that are always available!!

lol. I think of it that way too. The cat site girlfriends. lol. It's like girlfriends at your fingertips!

Anyways, I dont get to be alone much. If ever. Dh goes nowhere actually. We're always together. I couldnt IMAGINE him being gone for a night. I'd go crazy. I'd talk to myself for sure. lol

BUT..I guess if this happened frequently and what I WOULD want to do...I'd so take a long flower filled, wine drinking, soft music, lavender bubble bath!!

And top it off with putting a new silky night thing on, and dancing in the living room with a wine glass.
Sounds wierd, but I would.

Honey bun this doesn't sound weird at all!!! If it's weird then I am weird because I do this exact thing already when I am in need of one of those unwinding nights! It is the best way to relax!

I always rent all of the chick flicks I've been wanting to see too! It helps to fill your afternoon with cleaning or whatever, then watch your movies before bed with a good drink. It makes it much easier to sleep!

I have actually never had a night by myself. But I think that I would be scared though to be in the house by myself...probably because I have never lived alone...my husband and I started dating in highschool and he actually moved into my parent's house with me after a year of dating....then we moved into our own apartment 2 years after we started dating...and then a house a couple of months after we got married

*******but I am home in the afternoon by myself, because I am home by 2:00pm and he usually doesn't get home till 6:30/7:00pm.....I usually go by the library and get a chick flick to watch....or I get on the laptop and surf the net....this afternoon I am going to watch "Just Like Heaven"......I hope its a good movie

OMG why aren't you going to Bonaroo with him??????? I would flip out if my boyfriend went to Bonaroo without me! Do you not want to go? If not, I do the same stuff suggested although I also like to get out. Sit by the pool and have a beer or take the cat for a walk or whatever. And who says you have to be with someone to go out? I've been to movies by myself even when there are people to go with if I checked around.
I actually enjoy having the place to myself for awhile. Of course I enjoy company most of the time, but sometimes you just need some space.

I enjoyed it immensely! very cute movie

Well since I'm home alone every night, I'll tell you what I do- watch TV, read the paper and snuggle with my crew.... it's so strange because after a year and a half of being on my own, I couldn't imagine someone BEING there all the time
Heck, even when I was married I immensely enjoyed the evenings when he wasn't there
might be one of the reasons we're not together

My husband works two jobs to support my graduate school career. Which leaves me incredibly lonely at nights. I often wished that I could make more money so he doesn't have to work so hard.

I read my newspapers and magazines, drink my tea with cats in my lap.

Oh I absolutely want to go with him! But I am working at the hospital this summer, and am already taking off 10 days to go to the beach...plus when he bought his ticket I didn't have near enough money!!

And thanks for even more suggestions everyone!
