My 2 year old male kitty, Kashi, has been slowly losing weight. Last month at his vet checkup, he had gone from 9lbs. 5oz to 8'14, and today he weighed 8'9oz.
My vet isn't worried because Kashi seems very healthy and he's quite active, but I asked her to draw blood just to be sure nothing is going on.
Kashi enjoys his food and ssems to me to be eating as much as ever but I do have 2 other cats so I can't be sure.
The vet suggested I feed Kashi seperately so I can monitor more closely.

I'd appreciate any help/suggestions,

It's so hard when you have a multi pet household and have to monitor one of them! I would wait to find out what the blood test results are first before doing anything to alter Kashi's diet. If there is nothing medically wrong, then you might want to put Kashi in a bedroom alone for feeding time. That even gets challenging if they are fed free-range, which most of us do I think. But if he eats canned food, I would let him have some time alone and see how much he eats at one time...

Let us know what the blood work says though!

Hi, I have no suggestions, but I will remember your angel in my prayers and thoughts. Please keep us updated! I want to know the results of the blood work.

sarha: I can only tell you what I would do in your situation. Like you have already done, a vet appointment. And keep updating your vet with any new findings, most vets welcome people to come in and weigh they're pets at any time.

I would most certainly pick up all food and go to set meal times (at least until this is over and we find out if something is wrong or not.)
Feed your cat that is loosing weight separately behind a closed door, so he can't eat others food, and no one can eat his. Measure out the exact amount he's eating at each feeding and each day, so you can keep track of this.
Throw away any uneaten food after meal times.

Ditto that ...

Also just fyi the vet may not think much of the wt loss... My Zoey is also two and had lost about a half lb the vet said monitor her but not to worry as she may just be finishing her growth

sharky does bring up another point. an animals weight can fluctuate with the seasons. I don't know where you live but here, with summer coming, my cats are shedding like crazy and dropping a little excess fat they had stored for "winter".

Thank you all for your replies and advice. I know my vet isn't really worried about Kashi's weight loss because she feels weight can fluctuate and he isn't acting like a sick cat.
I am a worrier by nature though, and so I am going to feed Kashi seperately and monitor his intake. I'm hoping his bloodwork will be fine.

I think part of my worry is that we lost our 3 year old cat, Andrei, to HCM two years ago. Andrei had no symptoms and also appeared perfectly healthy until he dropped dead without warning. It has made me understandably anxious about Kashi.

My vet called to let me know that Kashi's bloodwork is all fine. Good news.
She suggests I try feeding him seperately to keeptrack of what he's eating and then bring him back in a month to be weighed.

I feel better knowing that the bloodwork is clean and I'll keep an eye on him.

When I took my cat Dusty to the vet in late April she had lost 2.2 lbs from the year before and down to 6.6 lbs. Had a blood panel, and nothing out of the ordinary. She was shedding alot at the time, but has now lost her winter coat, and seems to be picking up weight. During her weight loss she was throwing up hairballs daily, and sometimes more than once daily. Other than throwing up hairballs, she appeared well. I think she is fine now.

I am glad that his bloodwork came back fine - my two overweight boys have lost a bit of weight again this month, even teh one I have been struggling with, so maybe the weather has somethign to do with it.
