I am dropping Nedicks off at the vet Saturday morning for an ultrasound of her bladder to determine whether she has any large stones that will require surgery. They told me it would probably take about an hour. Have any of you been through this with your kitties? Will they sedate her? Is there anything I should know? (They already told me she couldn't eat after 10 p.m. the night before.)

ZsaZsa was sedated and shaved when they were trying to determine if (s)he was a cryptoorchid. If she can't eat after 10 p.m., I'd assume they're going to anesthetize her.

Oh boy. Miss kittenface is not going to enjoy that. Will it be okay to leave her alone for a short period (like an hour) after we get her back home, or should we make sure someone is going to be able to stay home with her throughout the day? I'm just trying to plan ahead.

When my kitty Max had an ultrasound (he had two) they didn't sedate him....they did shave him however....I suppose they decide whether or not to do that depending on the temperament of the kitty. I had another kitty, Buster, that couldn't be touched unless he was gassed...
Wishing all goes well with the test!

If they do sedate her, how long will she be groggy? They wouldn't put her completely under would they? Just give her a little something to calm her down I hope?

ZsaZsa had two ultrasounds performed by two different vets (she had to go to a specialist clinic after my vet determined she was a hermaphrodite). I took her in very early in the morning (7 a.m.), and couldn't pick her up until early afternoon, by which time the anesthesia had worn off. They had to put her completely under because looking for "hidden" testicles is apparently rather involved, and there was subsequent surgery.
I imagine if your cat just has an ultra-sound, and no invasive surgery, you could leave her for an hour in her carrier or locked in one room if she's still groggy.

No surgery for her, at least not immediately (if they find a large stone(s) we will have to schedule something). So I'm thinking if they do give her something it won't be very strong, just something to keep her calm.
