I just found a new vet office which is a little over ten miles from here. As it is roughly time for Pudge's yearly checkup (and I haven't yet found a vet nearby who I feel comfortable with), I called and asked about a general checkup.

It is the most expensive yet ($192 for the checkup), but it includes bloodwork,
heart exams, xrays, etc. and sounds very, very thorough. That part does not bother me, as this IS a medical practice, and to expect those things alone for $20 is asinine. It will take a whole day (I drop her off one day and they keep her overnight).

Is it normal for checkups such as the one above to be done overnight? What can I do to cut down on the stress I am sure she'll be feeling due to this?

Wow, that does sound thorough....but the cost sounds about right for all they're doing. Just for the complete body function blood test I pay about $130....and the office visit in my area (Maryland) is $49. It's a shame she has to stay there overnight though...I know kitties don't like being at the vets much less spending the night!

I have never left my baby overnight for a General Check-up and my Vet is very thorough.

Unfortunately some are just out to make money and add everything possible to the list no matter how unnecessary.

Do you have a recommendation - how did you hear about this VET?

I learned of their existence through the carecredit site.

I am leary of leaving an animal over night as I lost a dog as a preschooler to a vet not being there with the animals overnight..... And I dont see the need for a healthy animal to be at the vets overnight other than bourding

CommonOddity: It is not normal routine to leave a cat over night for what is essentially an extensive check up.
It's great the details that they are covering, but it also puts stress on your cat. The clinic probably does it more for a means of ease on themselves, and patients that come in with actual appointments.

I know. I asked this because I'd never heard of overnight general health checkups beofe, and am not sure if I am keen on the idea of putting her through that THAN a tooth cleaning which would also be overnight a few days later.

This was one of three that I called today, and I've found one vet with rave reviews who is a lot lower in price, although a little further away. He can do the bloodwork, have the results within 20 minutes, do the tooth cleaning, and we can pick her up that afternoon. Total: $115.
