Hi everyone. I just joined a few days ago. Right now I have a very sick kitty on my hands and am worried sick about him. He is already at the vet, but the only thing they know right now (besides his symptoms) is that he has a high fever. His bloodwork results should be ready sometime after 1pm today, but I'm really worried.

His symptoms are:
* lethargy
* half his normal appetite (unless I bring the food to him)
* not much drinking (have been giving him water with an eye dropper to keep him hydrated)
* raspy to no noise when he tries to meow.

He pees normally, but hasn't pooped since Saturday afternoon. Most of these symptoms started Friday evening.

He is only 10.5 months old, so I know it's nothing to do with getting old.

About a week and a half ago, he was neutered. He seemed to do fine after that...until this...

Has anyone had any experience with these symptoms?

Oh my gosh, it could be a number of things. I know how frustrating it is waiting for lab results, but I think that you'll get answers when those come back in. I'm sure they are taking good care of him and they'll find out what's wrong. Maybe it's an infection of some kind....we sure do worry about or little furbabies don't we?!! Please let us know when you find out what's going on with him, okay?

I will update when I have more information. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it is something minor and that they can get it under control quickly.

I see that you are in Annapolis, not far from where I am working right now. Skit is at the Cat Hospital of the Eastern Shore. I know they have a location in annapolis as well, so you may have heard of them.

Yes I certainly have heard of them...we pass that hospital whenever we head to the beach! I didn't know they had a cat-only hospital in Annapolis! That's something to keep in mind! I take mine to Arnold Pet Station in Arnold by Anne Arundel Community College....

Oops! I goofed! The place is in Towson, not Annapolis. Sorry! Here's the link if you're still interested though:

I went to the Cat Hospital today cause it's right on my way to work (Chesapeake College).

I believe I've seen the Arnold Pet Station before. I used to travel by that way quite a bit.

Oh darn....too good to be true!

Arnold Pet Station is pretty good, but when things go really "wrong" they immediately send you to the specialists on Best Gate Rd. in Annapolis which is the emergency vets after hours...and very, very expensive. But they've see me so much lately because of my one cat, Bunnie, that they've given me a break on the last visit! They are really good vets there though....Bunnie see's an "Internist"...

Sadly, those specialists on Best Gate rd are the closest ones to us. There is none like that on the Eastern Shore. I think the Cat Hospital is fairly similar. They seem to really know their medications, symptoms, etc.

Update: I finally got the call! Yay! lol That alone was relief!

Anyway, his blood count is normal, but there's some strange toxic changes going on with his white blood cells and they aren't sure what's causing that. I'll ask more about it when I get there after work (I leave in 30 minutes).

They gave him a shot of Beytrol to bring down his fever and start fighting whatever is going on with him. They are also giving me Beytrol pills to give him for a week, then he will go back in for a check-up in about a week or two. He was supposed to get booster shots this friday, but that has to be postponed now til he is better.

He's already making an amazing improvement. This morning, Skittles decided that 2am was the best time to let me know that he's awake and somewhat active...lol

This morning he finally gave his usual greeting.

LOL I'm on the phone right now with my mother. She just called to let me know how much he's feeling better. Apparently he's starting to wreck havoc around the house already....yep, he's fairly back to normal!

He even went as much as to pull out his favorite toy (catnip filled) and toss it around the house a bit. I'm truly amazed how well he's responding to the meds already. I'm going to be sure to change permanently to this new vet and send her a thank you card!
