Just wanted to know if it was normal for a 2 week old kitten to shed? She is healthy in every other aspect, but her black baby hair coats EVERYTHING...

The other kitten isn't shedding at all. Should I be worried? Perhaps make another vet appt.?

Some cats are definately greater shedders than others. However if it concerns you..you may want to call your vet and ask if they believe the kitten should come in.

I have had kittens who shed. I think if your black one seems to be shedding more than the tiger kitten, in time you will see that the black one is medium to long haired.

My kittens that shed the most were the gray ones. Either that or all the fur looks gray on the floor! LOL!

I am not too concerned, as long as it isn't abnormal for a baby to shed. The parents were two shorthairs, is it possible to get a long hair from them?

Yes...just like it is possible for 2 people who have dark eyes and straight hair to have a child with blue eyes and curly hair....they could be carriers of the Medium or Long Hair gene.

You know what they say...there are no stupid questions. It is amazing what the kittens can worry us about! I might be wrong about one having longer hair...but that is what I have seen in my litters. Of course, as fosters, I never know who the father is, and generally assume there could be more than one!

Well, we are fairly sure that there is only one daddy...

But the three stillborns were a different size, and colouration....

I have a grey cat, she she DEFINITELY sheds more than my other cats. Bandit, the white and black one, comes in a close second.. her fur is very thick, but short.

Never heard of a very young kitten that shed. I'd contact the vet - doesn't seem right to me.

Older kittens will shed out the kitten coat - but that's like 4-6 months old - not a few weeks old.
