Hey all,
i just recently signed up with this forum because about 3 days ago my cat lost it's voice. this has happened before and the next day it has come back...but it's going onto three days now and still nothing. when i'm going to feed her or when she wants to go out she trys meowing and nothing comes out. sometimes you can hear a faint little noise right at the end of the meow but most of the time...nothing.

like i said it's happened before and has come back... but after three days and still no meow it's really starting to make me nervous.

also when she lays down it sort of looks like she is uncomfortable in a way. like she is going to be sick, she makes the motion like she is going to hack/throw something up but it never get's that far before she swallows and stops. could it just be a very big hair ball stuck in her throat? before the loss of her voice she was a big fan of eating her fur and coughing hair balls up but nothing as of late. if anyone can give me any infromation on this before i go and drop 100-200 at the vet then that'd be fantastic. any replies are welcome.

thank you for your time with reading this. i apreciate it.

My moms cat Penny does the voiceless meow, not sure why, but she is perfectly healthy.

Are you sure that she is not just yawning? Ir is she sort of dry heaving? If she is dry heaving-she may still have hairballs, they have stuff for hairballs at Walmart, might want to try that.

sometimes it happens when she yawns she sort of coughs a little bit, it's really weird. she's an old girl so maybe it's normal i'm not sure. could a hair ball really be stuck in her throat for 3/4 days? i'm going to take a trip to walmart tomorrow and see what i can find. THANK YOU!!

Any behavior that is different from your cat's normal pattern is a reason to make an appointment with the vet. Most likely it's nothing serious but cats are expert at hiding illness and if you can catch an illness when the cat is still showing only minor symptoms, you have a much better chance of having a good outcome.
