Ruby had six babies this afternoon. Mom and Meowmy are exhausted. She needed help with every one of them! Here's the rundown:

#1: Black/Gray Stripes Female
#2: Orange Tabby Male
#3: Tuxedo Female
#4: Tuxedo Male
#5: Gray with white chest Male
#6: Calico (she is extremely small, had to be resucitated, but is now nursing well. Cross you fingers!)

Pictures tomorrow!

She is an uber-runt! She is half the size of the next smallest and her belly skin is almost translucent! She would not be alive if not for my neighbor (a former vet tech) who pulled her out (she was breech), cleared her sac, suctioned her nose, and gave her the breath of life for 5 minutes and then continued to stimulate her for another 30! Amazing woman! I just hope she survives. My mother really had her heart set on a calico (she recently lost her elderly cat) and the tiny baby didn't nurse until my mother came over to visit the new babies. I think its fate.

It's good they are all doing ok. Make sure mom and kittens are set up in a room where mom has her food and litterbox close by so she doesn't have to leave her kittens.

Oh all happened so fast, that we put her into the room wth easiest access, our guest bath (we rarely use it) instead of the master closet. We came home from the lake, she was acting funny, meowing at me. So I patted the couch for her to get up on it and immediately, brownish mucous started coming out. I went to get the neighbor and within 5 minutes the first was born! They are all nursing or sleeping happily in a box in the bathtub and her litter box and food are outside of it. She already drank quite a bit of water and a few bites of food (after a tasty meal of 6 placentas!).

As far as the runt goes, she is still strong actively searching for a nipple! I put her on one every time I check on them (every 10 minutes or so), but I think she's getting full. I hope she makes it.

Names: We were thinking before they were born about other jewel names, but they don't really fit the boys. The first girl will be called Spitfire because she was already climbing out of the impromptu nest 10 minutes after birth. One of the boys (the orange) will be Hoss because he's just so huge! The others will earn their names, too, I suppose!

All of the kittens made it through the night! Yay! Here are some pictures from last night.

Here is the whole litter and mama (sorry about the size, its at 25% of the original and I can't get it any smaller):

Now I need some advice. When I woke up this morning, Ruby was out of the box. After I made shure she knew where her food was and gave her some fresh water, I closed her into the bathroom with her babies. She was meowing to be let ou t, so I let her out but watched her very carefully. A few minutes later, she went back to the bathroom and started moving the kittens (she got two in one trip) into my 3-year old's closet, not exactly the best place for babies. I just picked them up, showed her I was moving them, and put them back in the box. Was that the right thing to do???

Yeah It was she'll keep trying to move .When she comes out on breaks just make sure she has no babies with her. When she goes back in and starts crying just ignore her. When our old cat Case had her babies we made her stay in the mast bathroom and she tried for aleast 2 weeks to move them and after she figured out that was no going to happen she stop. Good luck and they are adorable!
