Miscarriage?

So, I think my cat is miscarrying. She was in heat a few weeks ago, and managed to claw her way outside a few nights.

Then, Wednesday or Thursday of this week I noticed a little bit of pink smear on the bathroom floor, but I couldn't possibly imagine what it could be and just ignored it.

We let her outside again on this past Friday (she never usually stays out more than 10 minutes) and she stayed out again all night long. She wasn't in heat still, so this was a curiousity.

Last night, I discovered that she had a substantial amount of menstrual fluid (that's what it smells like) coming from her vaginal area (I haven't inspected closely enough to discern between her anus and vagina).

She looks to be very mellow and relaxed; she's letting me lift her tail to inspect her genitals- she even let me place a paper towel on the area to absorb some of the blood. She's let me clean her nose (which, in hindsight, looks like dry, grey blood from cleaning herself). Obviously, this is behaviour she wouldn't allow if something wasn't going on with her.

I don't know how she's eating because she shares one of those automatic feeders with the other cat and her eating habits are not heavily monitored (though, traditionally, she eats like a horse), but it doesn't SEEM like she's eating much, however I haven't been home much in the past two days to observe what's going on.

We're supposed to go out of town for the day today and I'm vaguely concerned about leaving her alone.

I've never experienced anything like this with an animal before (all my animals have been spayed or neutered before). Any advice or thoughts?

Welcome to TCS...I would take her to your vet and have her checked out (I would call around and see if there are any vets that are open today). I would also keep her strictly indoors until you have seen your vet and can determine what is happening with your girl. When cats are intact and outdoors it does put them at risk of stray intact males mating with them. This is very dangerous as you do not know if the father is a carrier of FIV or FELV...which can be passed on to her and her kittens. Best to keep her indoors only.

Miscarriages aren't to common and I would also be concerned about a uteran infection. If this is the case it could be life threatening so I would get her in to the vet immediately! Good luck, I hope she's ok!
