I was just downstairs playing with Scratch when I found about 10 pieces of her claws in the carpet. They weren't stuck in there as if she was clawing the carpet. We've always had cats in our house but I've never found parts of their claws. I was just wondering if cats' claws "shed" and I haven't been seeing them.

Wouldn't finding 10 shed claw sheaths be an excessive amount for one day? Kind of unusual to shed them all at once like that, isn't it?

I find one every once in awhile, but never that many at one time. That seems a little odd.

Under a stack of blueberry waffles.
They shed them. Pudge only claws her tree and condo, so every few months, there'll be tiny claw sheaths scattered on each level. I just sweep them into the garbage.

I don't think Scratch lost those all in one day. It was only after the purchasing of the cat tree that I ever saw one of Pudge's claw sheaths, and she was a little over a year old then.

Moz: Usually shedding the nail sheath is not a problem. But keep an eye on them. You don't want the claws to be cracked or brittle, if you see that then you have a problem.
It's also good to make sure your nail trimmers stay sharp, if they are dull they can do a better job at breaking the claws rather then a nice clean cut.
