So, i have a problem here....lol Can someone give me a hand?

We've found an abondoned kitty 3 days ago and brought him home....he looks as if hes only 5 weeks old, to young to be separated from mommy. Weve got a one year old cat, (Aslan) who we saved from the being put down in a pound, a year ago...up until now hes been the only cat in the household. He was a kitten, 8 weeks old, when we got him.
He definately thinks he is higher than everyone else, king of the house (typical for a cat, and perfect for the name...heehee). We've got the kitten, (Harbor) in the spare room at the moment, and we bring him out every now and then.
Aslan definately knows hes here, he does not like him at all, but i THINK hes settling to the idea.
Today when i brought kitty out, he went right up to Aslan, very unafraid...aslan did not like it, he hissed at Harbor and eventually shyed away. Which is a good thing, right??? poor aslan!

When we first got kitty, Aslan was hissing at him all the time, and since its only been three days, im not really surprised that hes still hissing at him.
I dont know what to expect as ive never been a foster mommy b4....can someone tell me the best thing to do to get them to like eachother, or at least what to expect???

That would be greatly appreciated!
Thanx

Loralei..welcome to TCS....has the kitten been vet checked?? I would hold off on too much interaction until the kitten has received a clean bill of health.

100% agree with the last post. You don't want Aslan to catch something from the new kitten...best to get an "all clear" from the vet first.

And give Aslan some major adjustment time. Start by bringing Aslan some of Harbor's bedding to sniff, so that he can get used to his scent. Then, begin feeding kitten on one side of the door, and gradually move Aslan's food over to the opposite side of the door. Once Aslan will readily take a whole meal by the door, or he begins sleeping by the door, you may be ready to begin introducing him to the kitten. Bring the kitten into Aslan's territory...in other words, don't bring Aslan into Harbor's room for meetings. There will be some hissing, and possibly some bopping each other on the head, or maybe some hostile sniffing. This is all okay, and very normal. In fact, don't be surprised if Aslan remains hissy at Harbor for a several weeks, even a couple of months. As long as the aggression between them looks like it won't result in any real injury, they are just establishing who is boss. And DON'T be surprised if it's little Harbor!!!!

It really just takes a lot of time and patience. If things look too ugly between them, replace Harbor to his safe room, and try again the next day.

Good luck at the vet...I hope Harbor is a healthy kitten!
