do you know if there are any TNR groups in MA? I was reading here and just thought of my hubbies boss.... She feeds all the cats that live in a colony by her work. She got one of those huge iglo style dog houses for them and buys them canned food and dry food and feeds them daily. But they have never tried to catch them to TNR them or anything. She would be devasted to have someone come and take them for good but was wondering if there was a TNR group that would get them fixed up and put back. And would that cost her anything? (not that she doesn't have the $ but she has never done anything like that, not sure if she never thought of it or what. IK I never have. DUH!)

Yup...looks like there are quite a few groups that do TNR there.

As far the costs....each organization has their own policies with regards to fees, so best if she calls first. It's great that you will pass on to her information on TNR. BTW...for any questions she might have she can go here:

Thanks. Iwill pass the list on to her but seem alot are into trying to rescue them and I know some have been there for years...... plus none are really close to us, but will mention it to dh and pass it on. IK she loves these animals as she has spent a ton in food and a shelter for them. One got hit by a car (they are in the woods next to a huge parking lot) last year right in front of her building and she was sooooo heart broken and wanted to get it to a vet but it was too far gone and hubby and one other guy had to put it out of its misery since 1/2 of it was squished, then they gave it a proper burial. so sad. so I will have hubby pass it on.

Splendid they are also trying to make homecats with them. This is usually no impossibility, this takes only time and effort and a fosterhome. (but a shy semiferal/feral may be fairly easy if you do have help of own friendly homecats Cats who were once homecats are also usually fairly easy).

So TNR as such is not better, but it is the easiest way out if you dont have the resources, ie have some resources but not much.

Best is probably a combination: Good rescue/foster combined with good TNR, I believe.

So I dont understand the little " but..."

Please give Katie a big hug from me. - If you dont dare - a warm handskake.

Hey Heather....most groups do want to try to find homes for the cats that are adoptable...but if this woman has been feeding them for years...the colony may be established and perhaps only any kittens would be placed up for adoption. In either case, TNR is better than allowing cats to have cycle after cycle of unwanted kittens.
