How to keep my kittens indoors?

Now that summer has finally arrived
and the weather is getting hotter, I like to have a few windows open to get some air into the house. However, I am worried that my girls will go out via the windows. Does anyone have any tips as to how to have windows open but keep the cats from going out through them?

I open the windows a tiny fraction at the moment but as soon as I do, Bella comes along and has a sniff and attempts to stick her paw through the gap to make the window open bigger. Luckily, she isn't yet strong enough to push the window open but I'm guessing it's only a matter of time before she figures something out!

I have a not so attractive solution!

For the selected windows that I like to open, I made a wooden frame with chicken wire on it to jam into the window indent (between the walls and window ledge) It can be a little aukward to open the window, but it works just fine!

I'm presently working on a window guard with a door on it for ease of window opening!

Thanks Sar! I've just been leafing through one of my cat magazines and have found this website www.cataire.co.uk - they make screens that sound not too dissimilar to what you have done! I've dropped them an email - hopefully, they will be the solution to my problem!

BTW, how are Tibby's teeth these days?

The screens do seem pretty similar!

Thank you for asking!

Tibby's not doing too badly with his teeth and gums *touch wood* He had a slight build up of plaque a little while ago, but with daily brushings with Logic, it seems to have calmed down considerably!
Just keeping a very close eye on things!

How are you and your girls? Where did you vanish to for so long?

Are you brushing all your moggies' teeth or just Tibby? How easy is it to do?

We're all fine. Cindy is very brave and very vocal these days and Bella has turned into a beautiful chunky little girl. I hate going to work because it means leaving my babies!!

Sorry I haven't been around for a while - work have had me travelling around the world for several months so any time I got to spend at home was spent cuddling my babies and catching up with family. Anyway, it's all over for the year now (I hope!) so I'll be desperately trying to catch up on everything I've missed!

All three mogs get their daily brushings!
It is pretty easy once you get them used to it and the bonus of a treat afterwards always goes down well!

That's great that Bella and Cindy are doing well!
I can imagine how difficult it muct be to leave the little darlings!

Look at you with your jet set lifestyle! Do you get to go anywhere exciting? Do you get to look around while you are there? (sorry, lots of questions!) That's great that you're done for now, though! Lots of time for snuggling and family time! Plus time to spend with us on TCS!!

ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
I only open my windows a few inches and luckily their aluminium framed so their quite heavy for the girls to push open.

If i sit outside though they sit at the window crying because they want to be with me, but the minute i put their harnesses on and bring them out they dash straight back into the house

This year alone, I've been to Perth and Wellington (spent 4 weeks there so got a chance to do a little bit of sight seeing but not much
), Istanbul for a week, Dublin for 5 days, Santa Clara for 6 days, Scotland for 9 days, Guatemala for 4 day and Arin for 4 days. I'm a bit tired now!

There is scope to do a little bit of sightseeing but not much as I am supposed to be networking or doing presentations. It really isn't as glamorous as it sounds though - I'm generally with a bunch of really geeky techies with whom I don't have much in common with!

That's such a shame you don't get time for sightseeing!
I can imagine that it must be incredibly tiring with all the travel and times zones too!

I bet you're glad to be back on British soil for a while!

What do you do for work? If you don't mind me asking!

I'm an engineering manager for an IXP (we're sort of like the BT equivalent for Internet Service Providers). Part of my job is to attend industry meetings and to occasionally speak at these meetings. When I'm not doing this, my team and I are making sure that the internet doesn't break

That sounds like a good job!
Especially the bit about making sure that the internet doesn't break!
