We got him at a local shelter at 2 months old. When we brought him home, he was very scared of us and would run from us for the first few hours, but after that he wouldn't leave us alone! He would follow me around the house playing by himself until I moved. Then he wold follow me until I stopped. How do I make him more independent? Do they grow out of this. I would have liked a second kitten, but I doubt the landlord would let. He barely said yes to one..

I can't get any sleep as well. He would jump on my face and lick my chin. It was very cute, but annoying at the same time(CLAWS!). How do I get him to go to sleep when I do. The most he's ever slept was at most 10 minutes, even then I had to be near him.

I'd also like to know how to show effection. He looks at me and meows a lot. What does that mean? When I pet him, he looks uninterested(he does rub on me though) so that doesn't work. :O

I apreciate any help offered.
Look for me around the forum as well. Judging from the posts I've read, this looks like a very friendly forum.

Hi, he sounds so cute, and quite normal. Don't forget, that while he's very active, he's really still just a tiny baby, and in cats, that means just a bundle of instincts, but no reasoning power or self discipline yet. He has no concept of 'bad' or of what's appropriate, and only knows if something feels good or not, and reacts to that. He will grow out of it all, but it can take months, even up to a year, two steps forward and one back, like any baby. Have you made sure he's getting a proper diet for a kitten? They can be voracious, and do have specific needs. Are you playing with him, with toys, rather than just letting him find something to do on his own? Kittens love chasing games - you throw a tiny ball of ... alum. foil for him, and he'll play hockey with it, then want another, or knot a cord at both ends and drag it wiggling across the floor for him to chase. Give him a paper bag and roll/throw the ball the ball into it, and he'll dive in and create a storm! Another kitten's a great idea, but then you'd just have double trouble, and it won't necessarily help a lot. Being nocturnal, he will drive you nuts at night, but if you've kitten-proofed (for his safety) the apt., then leave him outside of your door at night and get him used to amusing himself then, as long as he has water, maybe a bit of food put out then, he should be fine.

I bought one of the more costly brands. The rest weren't for kittens or were already bought(you can tell kitten season is here :p). I got the last Science Diet left that was made for kittens. I do have a few toys for him. I got one of those feathers on a stick things he seems to like. The ball with a bell inside seems to scare him..

I sort of feel sad for him since I seperated him from his litter. I wish I could have brought one of his brothers or sisters home with him.

I adopted a 10 week old kitten from my local Humane Society two weeks ago that we named Fez.
Your kitten sounds like a typical active kitten to me. How long have you had him?
It took my kitten about a week and a half to really settle down in his new home. He is acting more independ now. Even though we have other pets in the house, he still wanted to be close to us.
I do have a 2 year old cat (Shamie) that he loves to play with. His best buddy is our toy poodle named Skeeter. They play and take naps together.
We set up camp in a seperate room with a litter box, food, water, toys and a bed for him. He has been sleeping in there at night or I wouldn't get any sleep at all. Sometimes I lay down in bed with Fez after dinner and pretend I'm sleeping to see how he's acts and so he can get use to being in the bed with me. He is getting very good at leaving my head alone. LOL I actually took a real nap with him yesterday and woke up with Fez laying off to the side of me, Shamie sleeping by my legs, and Skeeter sleeping behind my legs.
So, I would give it some time for him to get comfortable in your new home and with you.
Congrats on your new kitty!
