How long should the cats' mucous plug be visible before she begins giving birth?

Welcome to TCS....sounds like it is time to set her up with a nursing box and her food and litter in a quiet room.

It looked like a purple grape, but slimy.

The cat, just a 9 month kitten herself, had her litter of 5 between 11pm and 430 am.

bbinks.....congrats on a successful litter....as a quick reminder, keep mom cat and babies in a quiet room with 2 doors between them and the outdoors. We would like this to be her only litter and since cats can become pregnant almost immediately after giving birth, it would be best to keep her away from the outdoors and any intact males. If you need a low cost clinic for when mom has weaned the kittens and/or would like to see if there is a clinic that will spay/neuter the kittens, just send me a PM with your location.
