I adopted a stray kitten about 8 months ago; she's probably about a year old now. Due to a foreign work assignment, the cat is now living with a relative (for about 2-3 months). She is a very friendly cat and always followed me around the house, but I'm wondering if she will even remember me when I get back (or if it will be back to square one).

Also, if she does remember me, I'm wondering if she will be mad because I left her with my relative. Her last memory is probably of me loading her into the carrier for the trip. (I'm sure she's being well-cared for in my absence.)

Thanks for all feedback.

There's no place like home
I gave 2 of my cats to my brother in law for 9 months during a cross country job relocation. When I finally got settled, it was like they had never left me. You should be OK.

I'm sure your kitty will remember you. I had to leave my cat Spike with my sister for almost three years. He was only about one when I left. Now I'm back and he is still the same. I know he still remembers me as the one who wiped his bottom when he had problems as a kitten. I don't think kitty's ever forget the people that love them.

If you can remember to do it when you first go to pick him up and bring him home, rub your hands all over with something from home, even if it's his special pillow, or a pair of socks from the hamper, and he'll recognize you as more familiar. They're so tuned into smells and places!
