I graduated last month from college
...and now I am in the alternative certification program through the Houston Independent School district, so I may start teaching in the fall. I have to take the TExES test on Saturday so I am able to start teaching in August. This is HUGE! If I don't score a "240" (approx. 80%) on it, I won't be able to be hired through any school. We took a practice test on May 20 and I got a 64%....I really could use some good vibes, prayers or whatever you can shoot my way because I know you guys help a lot....you have in the past! I am very nervous about it....I don't want to be stuck at my job any longer than I have to

From what I heard it is actually very much like the GRE.

You can get some cheap GRE books from Half Price Books and practice on them.

Good luck. I am pretty sure you'll be fine. You should practice quite a bit just to calm your nerves though.

Yeah, it is very difficult. I've been studying workbooks they gave us in training along with reading "Preparing for the PreK-4 Teacher certification (400 pages) in the last two weeks. GRE books don't touch on what is covered on these tests by my knowledge. I've taken about 3 others math practice tests and ELA (English language arts) tests to be on the safe side. I've done all the practicing that I can stand at this point

Whee you can do it! Awww, I remember taking that test, seems like just yesterday! Good luck, I know you'll do great and you'll be on your way to surviving your first year of teaching in no time!

Eat some brain foods the morning of the exam (turkey and eggs), drink lots of water the day of the exam, and sleep at least 10 hours before the exam.

I am a standardized-test veteran.
I have taken more of them and done well in them than I care to remember.

Thanks!!! I will definitely have that for breakfast--I have to get up by 5am. So, I'll be catching some good ZzZz'sss
I've got to walk into that room "thinking" as a teacher would--that's what I've been told.

Don't worry too much about the sleep, then
I mean, it certainly helps but it is not absolutely essential for success. Last year hubby and I had to drive overnight to take my GRE Biology test because the GRE center messed up

. I still made a perfect score.

Standardized exams are a state of mind.
