So, Ruby still hasn't had her babies, obviously. I'm beginning to think she's holding them in for spite.
Tomorrow, it will be a week since the vet said any day now.

Today, Ruby has been acting totally nutty! She races around after things that aren't there. Has been trying to sleep in the kitchen sink and now she has placed herself under the living room sofa. I'm not sure how she even got in there considering the couch is about 4 inches off the ground and she is so huge.

Do you think she has decided that she wants to have the babies under the couch? I don't want babies born under my brand new couch in my brand new house, but I don't want to yank her out and I can't move the couch by myself. Is this nesting behavior or is she just a spaz?

Could be nesting, if possible I would get her out and put her in a closed room with her nesting box.

I would get her out and stick her in the bathroom or bedroom.. Somewhere she is cozy at is prefered but under the couch you can not help her if need be also 4 inch is no room for her to clean the kittens and push...

She is in her closet now. My husband came home and used his Superman power snd lifted the couch and I used my Matrix-like quickness to get her out.
Now we have a new issue. I went in to check on her and rubbed her belly and squeezed her nipples like I do about every hour. This time though, she kept lifting her back leg and trying to scratch me. Her back legs were shaking too. Do you think this may be it?

No babies yet. I took Ruby back to the vet this morning. She is so big and so uncomfortable. All she wants to do is hide under the couch, so I've decided to let her hang out as long as she wants. Vet says she won't do anything drastic (like induction or c-section) because we have no idea how pregnant she is. Once again, I got the "any day now" prediction.

It seems that her milk might be starting to bag up on the nipples closest to her legs, but who knows. Also, she usually eats two full bowls of dry food every morning. (I have a hard time keeping up some days.) She has not even finished the first bowl today. I leave her food out all day and usually, she will go for a nibble every hour or so. Not today. Wishful thinking! She's probably just freaked out from going to the vet.

I am so ready for these babies to come.

Nina is doing the same, chasing around and pouncing on invisible things on the carpet (very funny since she can barely see to begin with). She will only sleep on the bathroom floor, I think because it is cool on her fat body
like I should talk
Sounds like she is getting close.
With Adina, the vets "any day now" turned into 2 1/2 weeks and she was huge!!

Most poster on this board know more than me, but I would really think about secluding her. She can't physically have the kittens under the couch. If your house is quiet and calm, maybe set up a birthing "cubby" close to the couch. But ideally, I get her in a room and give her a couple of spots to choose from in there. I had just moved Veruca into a new room the night she had her kittens. I set up 2 different spot with towels and a roof over her head so she could decide. I also left the closet door cracked in case she wanted that. She chose to have them in the storage part of my daughter's cube like computer seat. I know it's hard to make them be all alone, but she might feel more secure if she's in a smaller space which might get her labor moving along. Also, she might want you to relax with her. For me it seemed like all it took for Veruca was for me to lay down in the room. It's like she understood I wasn't going to leave again soon and she relaxed and BOOM, the water broke! Good luck and I hope you have a special delivery soon!

She has a great space set up in our master closet including a shallow box on the shelf shich she (up until yesterday) preferred to sleep on. I laid a layer of vinyl and then put a carpet remnant down that completely covers the floor. Then she has a thick comforter, a bunch of baby blankets and towels inside a lawnmower box that I cut a door out for her. I put her in there at night and when we leave the house and I never hear a peep from her. I have a baby monitor on the top shelf of the closet and keep the receiver right next to me at night, so I can hear the slightest things.

I think she's just being stubborn. I'm on the look-out for any clear signs of early labor and, at that point she will be confined in the closet. Until then, she likes to roam the house and sleep under the couch.
