Every so often my cat swells up in different areas of his body. Every vet I've taken him to is at a loss. He's been on the venison and green pea allergy diet for a year now, but the problem still persists. Areas of swelling include the head, chest and all four feet, though only one at a time. He does not seem to be in pain during these episodes and walks normally when his foot is swollen. This guy is only two years and nine months old. Anybody have any clues or ideas?

Have they checked him for heart problems? It sounds like a possible circulation disorder.

Virulent Systemic Feline Calicivirus may also cause swelling of the face and limbs. I would think that if your kitty had it, he would have other symptoms as well, but it may be worth checking out (http://www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/msmp/p..._diagnosis.htm).

I tried your link but it's a dead end. But I'll check into the circulation disorder. Thanks for the tip.

Here's the same fact sheet as that UC Davis site- http://tinyurl.com/lqmm3

I don't suppose you have a veterinary college near you up there in Alaska??

that would be my choice- that's one swollen foot, and the random locations of the swelling are troubling.
Unless he is getting bitten or stung by something repeatedly- have you tried benadryl when it first happens?

And whether this is related or not I don't know, but I once lost a dog to lupus and limb swelling was the only symptom he ever exhibited.

Good luck.

No, he's strictly an indoor cat. We had to have him totally declawed because he was scratching himself so badly that he was tearing himself open.
