Our new kitten licks the metal vents in the floor? We keep taking her away from them and try to distract her but every time she passes one she stops to lick it? Why would she do this and what can we do to stop it? Thanks!

Perhaps she likes that it is cold?????

I have a freind whose cat licks the air-intake vent, and appears to like doing so because it gives her a small static electricity shock when she licks it. It makes no sense to me, that's for sure!

If you don't want her to lick the vent, try spraying it with Bitter Apple or rub then vent with lemon or orange peels. Both of these will be aversive (but safe) for the kitten and should keep her away.

Perhaps water is condensing on the vent? Cats love a non-bowl water source.
