I am soo scared of losing my pets. I know the day will come and it is haunting me.
I think about my kittens dying and I start hyperventilating. I just can't see how I could handle it! Does anyone experience anything similar? Is this normal or am I just weak?

Molly...just like the people in our lives...it is important to cherish the time we have with our pets. Yes, it is true that you cannot know when they will die...but you can certainly do all you can to help to extend their lives....keeping your kittens indoors only, making sure they are spayed/neutered, providing them high quality food and having regular vet visits will help to hopefully provide them with long lives. My cats that I got as kittens just turned 9 years old...and I'm hoping they give me 9 more years. But even if they don't, I have treated them every day as if it were the last day I would get to cuddle them and that has really made the experience wonderful.

I don't blame you for dreading the day that their times come. It will be sad and hard but it is just like people. You had a great life with them and it is their time so you will just have to let them go. Keep lots of pictures and their memories and move on. I used to be that way too but in the past few years I have dealt with a lot of animal deaths personally and at the shelter I worked at so I just keep in mind that they will be in a great place with no worries and no problems and I can move on to help the next cat in need.

Thank you for your replies. I do feel a lot better. I must cherish the moments I do have with my pets instead of dwelling on the days they will die.

Thanks, from me, too! I have seen too many little kittens die, I have a close friend that takes in pregnant strays, and a lot of times momma dies, and kittens are too weak to fend for themselves, even with strict care from us humans. I almost expect kittens to die. My babies are about 12 days old now, and I am still so worried....:S

So, sorry for thread-napping, but...thank you all.
