Hi everyone--I don't know how many on here will remember me as I have been away from TCS for quite a while, and browsing the boards it seems like there have been a LOT of new members. Things went kind of insane in my life over the past year--my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer last May and had to have surgery. After the surgery it seemed they may not have gotten all the cancer out, so he had to have radiation treatments too. About a month after his surgery though, I had my own medical crisis--a triple stroke at the age of 31. I had some permanent vision loss in both eyes as a result, and they discovered I had a congenital heart defect that had gone previously unnoticed and contributed to my stroke. I was about to get married when they discovered this, so they let me put off surgery until after the wedding and honeymoon. Got married in October, shortly after which my Dad started his radiation. Got through the holidays, then in mid-January had open heart surgery to close up the hole in my heart (the congenital defect that led to my stroke). Three weeks into recovery doctors discovered that the hole had partially reopened...lots of tests and doctor visits followed, and right now I am in a holding pattern, trying to decompress a little before I try to decide what to do next, and also trying to find a job, as I have been out of work for quite some time.

I hope some of my old friends on TCS will see this so we can reconnect. I am sorry I have been away so long, there was just so much happening that was so hard to talk about. And I am looking forward to making some new TCS friends too!

Have missed this place...

Hi my old friends!!!!!!
And so glad to meet you phenomsmom!

Yeah, things have been madness madness madness (and on top of it all, now poor little Nedicks girl has just been diagnosed with bladder stones!
) But I am feeling healthy, and trying to get my life back in some kind of reasonable order, while putting any further medical procedures on hold for the time being. I am very lucky to have married my knight in shining armor, if I may gush just a little.
Seriously, he has really stood by me through all this. I don't know what I would've done without him.

My dad is feeling good, thanks for asking, Susan. He is done with all of his treatments--both the radiation and the medication he was on--and he has gained back the weight he lost while on treatment. He is feeling upbeat and strong and his prognosis is good, so we are so thankful and happy about that.
