I am so distraught right now this will probably not make much sense, I want to thank anyone that does read this, maybe writing will help me feel a little better.
I moved from Illinois to Florida to be with my Mom. I moved with all 10 of my cats. They were all strays that I took in and they were all fixed and had shots. They ranged from 20 years old to 1 year old, I was not able to have children so these are my life.
My mother's landlord said that I could keep the cats until I could find homes for them. I tried all over and since they were all older nobody wanted them and the shelters were full. I was given a week to "get rid of" 7 of my cats. It was so hard to choose.
I took 3 of the kittens to pet groomers that I had met. She had them 3 weeks and said she found a good home for them and they all stayed together, but she didn't sound too convincing to me, not enough details for me.
I had a friend that said he would take my 2 9 year olds, if I would come and take care of them. I did, he left the door open and they disappeared and they have not been seen by anyone in the neighborhood in over a week, they were not outdoor cats, and were very shy.
Now I have had to make the hard decision to have my 20 year old put to sleep. I have had her since I left college and I have sat and thought about it and besides family I have only kept in touch with 6 other people in my life longer than Moe. She has been sick for some time, but I have been telling myself that she would get better, but she keeps getting worse. She can barely walk, has lost so much weight and her eyes are matted shut often.
I have never had to put an animal down and I am not sure I can handle it. I have an appointment with the vet later today (Tuesday). Please keep Moe and I in your thoughts. Thank you. Melinda

oh Melinda, how I weep for you right now. What a horrible decision to have to make especially after what you have just been through. I wish I could say something profound but I can only offer my deepest of sympathies and my thoughts. I really am so very sorry. Please know we are all here for you during this heartbreaking time. You are making the right decision, your baby girl is wanting you to make this decision, to release her from the pain she is in right now.... bless you for helping to end her pain and help her cross with dignity. She will be waiting for you, as will all your other cats

I am so sorry

Thank you for sharing with us. I can tell how much you love your kitties, and how you have tried very hard to provide for them. Yet you and your Mom have needs, too.

What a tough position to be in. After saying good-bye to several of your furkids, to have to help Moe cross over. I have had several animals pts, and while it is very sad, it is also very peaceful for the furry. If you can stay with Moe, you will see that it is very quick and she will just pass from this world to the next, instantly restored over the bridge to full health. She will be able to run and chase again, and will wait there for you.

Spend some quality time with her today, and I think you will see what you already know, that it is time for Moe. And tonight or tomorrow, make a plan to do something special for yourself. Get a haircut, go out for a latte, take a walk along the beach. You have been through a lot, and you need to take care of your emotional needs at this difficult time so you can be there for your other furkids.

Today I made the hardest decision in my life. I had to put my 20 year old Moe down. She was so sick. I feel so guilty and empty. When I signed the paper at the vet, I felt like an executioner serving a death sentence, even though I know it was for the best. The vet and assistant were wonderful giving me all the time and comfort I needed and I still took so long to finally let it happen. I am thankful that my Mom went with me to drive and hold me.
I have cried so much the last two days I don't have any more tears coming out. I have my candle lit and only hope she is in a better place. I feel so sick, I just need to vent. Thank you for reading this. Please send prayers for my little Moe baby angle now. Rest in Peace baby, I love you, miss you and will never forget you.

I've merged your post with your other thread about Moe.

I'm so very sorry that you had to let her go, but rest assured Moe's safely over at Rainbow Bridge now with all the other cats and kittens

Have fun over the bridge chasing the butterflies Moe

I am soo sorry about what you are going through. I have had to put two dogs down and I know how absolutely horrible it is to have to do that. One of mine was very old like your Moe, and the other was only 2 years old- she wasn't ready to go. . .
(I'm getting off-topic!)
Anyway, I want you to know that I know how you feel and Moe is in such a better happier place now. I know that she was a special kitty and had a great loving home. We can all tell that you cared about your kitties very much.

I want to thank everyone that replied to my thread, it has helped. I still feel numb, even with my other 4 cats around me. I just go to work and work around in a fog, I hope this will get better. My thought go out to evryone else that has lost a special pet, it is so hard.

I tried to upload a picture of Moe from photobucket, but couldn't remember how, so here is a link to a site I put her on if you would like to see her.

Condolences on your loss of Moe. I commend you for making the decision that was best for her, although it was yet one more horrible loss for you. She is in a better place now and I hope that someday soon your memories will bring smiles amid your tears. And I am sending {{{prayers and vibes}}} that your 9 year-olds show up safe & sound. You have been through some very traumatic times - the stress of moving, the awful heartache of placing your other furkids - you need a wonderful guardian angel to bring some happy times to you very, very soon.
BTW, bless you for making so many sacrifices to care for your mom.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. It is never an easy decision, however many times you have to do it, but when they are ill it is made that bit easier by knowing you are ending their pain for them, and it truly is the final act of love we do for them. When I have known I will have to make that decision, I am very upset before and during, but seem to stop crying soon after - I think it is cos I know they are no longer suffering, and that is so important. RIP Moe

Sweetie, I am so very sorry; you've been thru hell lately. I wish I could give you some words of comfort that would take away all the pain you're feeling. Please, if nothing else, know that you did what was best for Moe. She knows how much you love her.

So sorry to read of your loss. Know that letting Moe go was the last act of kindness you could bestow on her and that it was the right thing to do. Moe has moved on to a better place; one without pain and where the sun always shines. I hope you, too, will be able to move on and find some happiness soon with all that you have been through. Peace.
