Hi! I'm glad I found this forum! New here, and just got a new kitten yesterday. Such a sweetie. Well, anyway, she smells really bad. Kinda like a dirty litter box! I know it's not our becuase she smelt like that when we got here, just thought she may have just gotton done doing here thing, but it's been a day now and she'll still stinky. UGH.

Any suggestions, or does anyone know if this smell will go away?

Thank You very much!

Congrats on your new kitty

You could try washing her with a dry waterless shampoo from the pet store.

When Gina was a baby, she would hop all around and release her anal gland. The vet said some cats just do that. It was just when she was little, now she smells good.

Thank you so much for all your responses!! I will try all of that, I was just afraid my cat may be stinky forever, but I would still love her dearly!

IT WAS JUST RELATED TO STRESS AND FEAR....
Hello...i just bought a day ago a kitten from a cat rescue place and he was absolutely stinky. so much so that i resorted to give him a quick warm shower (which he did not mind too much). he was still as stinky afterwards, so the smell was obviously NOT coming from a soiled coat etc... i then thought it would be related to his diet and will go away in a few days after he starts eating the same good food that i prepare for my other 2 cats....we continued to play with him, making him feel comfortable and happy (despite the smell!), and to my astonishment, by the evening the horrible smell had gone...SO, in fact the terrible smell must have been due to the very high level of stress that he encountered (being in the shelter and then moving to a new home, etc..), and it was uniquely related to his "internal" warning signals....nothing sinister! he is today a very happy kitten, sleeping at my feet and purring loudly..and smelling beautiful!

Mercy reeked. It was even worse when she used the litter box. She came from the shelter and we called it prison stank. We feed kitten nutro too. It's all she'll eat even now. The smell went away with good food and less stress. Her poo stopped stanching up the whole house and because she started grooming herself she lost that greasy grimy sticky coarse hair coat quickly.
