Ok my babies are 4 weeks old and they drink water and have since 2 weeks old however they sniff momma's food but they won't touch it is there something I can give them to get them to eat? They don't nurse as much as they used to and momma doesn't produce as much milk as she used to. What should I do? I have seen 1 of them eat a bit of dry but that was only once.

Have you tried getting the dry food wet with a little bit of KMR or water? That is what I did with my kittens. They seem to just like up the water out of the food first and them tried to food.

I am a big fan of human baby food (as if you all didn't already know that about me *grin*) for introducing kittens to solid foods. I get the chicken or turkey meat only -- no onions or vegetables -- and warm it gently in a bowl of hot water just til it is warm to my wrist, not at all hot. I smear it out onto a dessert-sized paper plate and let them have at it. *LOL* They walk through it, they roll in it, they get it absolutely everywhere, so be prepared for a huge mess by putting them somewhere easy to clean when you first give it to them. But after all is said and done, they always end up eating it and from then on, the cries of "Mom has BABYFOOD" are bellowed as only Siamese kittens can bellow all over the countryside. *wink*

I usually wean my foster kittens by putting a small amount of kitten food on the roof of their mouths. Most realize that this is good stuff and will start eating on their own if I put it on my hands with food in front of them. Then I move my hands gradually to in front of the plate with kitten food and then eventually I move my hands and let them eat from the plate. This process usually takes a few days. For the few that don't like it the food immediately. I keep doing this daily until they are ready to eat on their own.

Same here. I am a big fan of Gerber's turkey flavors.

I used to have a roomie who loves baby food, go figure.

4 weeks old? That is still kinda young. Don't worry. they are still figuring the world out and will get it. We always start our kittens out on a all wet diet until we feel that they are old enough to eat hard food without choking. If we see that choking is a problem with one or two kittens (the do have tiny mouths, even for kitten food, and do choke) we soak the dry kitten food in water, you could use broth too but it would take longer to soak, and we feed that to the kittens too.

And to get our kittens use to drinking/eating out of bowls/plates, I put room temperature milk replacement in a bowl/plate and hold the kitten in front orf it, dip my finger in it and rub it in their mouth, usually after that they go for it.

Warning, they will jump into water and food bowl, be prepard to have to clean them off a few times!!!! Always make sure that the water bowl is shallow enough that if a kitten got in it that it can get back out!

Good luck with babies and keep us updated!
