I have decided not to get them anymore since reading some medical articles that say mammograms are not as effective as we have been led to believe. There are other, less intrusive means of checking our breasts apparently, that are just as good. (Don't ask me what they are right now because I'm having a senior's moment and can't remember.)
I have read those articles as well. I have never had a mammogram (still too young @ 26 according to the Dr.) but one of the things I have been wondering, especially if they are as bad as I hear, is why they can't use sonograms instead. The reason I ask this is because about 2 years ago I started having some medical issues and the doctors told me he suspected breast cancer, or a pituitary tumor. They wouldn't do a mammogram on me because they said I was too young and didn't want to expose me to the radiation. Instead they did a sonogram, which I was told would allow them to find any abnormalities. The sonogram was painless, and not the least bit uncomfortable (well, with the exception of having someone strange rubbing there
). This made me wonder why they don't use this procedure as opposed to mammograms

Here... or There... Hmmm
Never had a mammogram but can figure it feels something like my neighbors 21 lb. cat stepping on one the other day! Ouch!! Mine are quite sensative as it is as the doctor told me at my gyno appt. on the 2nd that there are two types of breasts. Choco pudding breasts & Tapioca Pudding breasts. (Smooth and Fibrous) Mine are Tapioca, lumpy! And they hurt just when giving the regular breast exam with pushing! I'm so going to die when it comes time for a real mammogram!

My Mom goes every year, and then treats herself to a hot fudge sunday afterwards. She says that it's a celebration of being a woman.

Oh, try not to be afraid. We women get all worked up, but it's never as bad as we make it out to be..........the best thing to do is just try to relax..........

I'll be telling myself that all day tomorrow!

Oh, Susie.... I'll keep you in my thoughts/prayers.

I always get all worked up for my icky dr appts. I hate going cause they've found problems in the past. And then you have to go 90 more times. I get so worked up I almost lose conciousness. And 1 time, I had to see a dr that was not my regular dr (that was enough stress), I change into my cape, and he comes back in with 7 students explaining to them that they will see a perfect example of scar tissue on a cervix. I'm like "oh no they won't!".... he didn't even ask if he could bring 7 students in to take a good look at my girl parts! I felt like a laboratory frog! There was no way I was letting them look. I made him send them all out. The nerve! I had to breathe into a paper bag just cause I wasn't seeing my regular dr!

I'm no slouch, but they end up trying to fit half my chest wall into the vise.
That's the part that hurts.
