I got a meal into the kittens of KMR and got them and Mom into a large dog crate. The vets I spoke to said this may force her to care for them. I am giving her no more then 2 hours. One of the remaining 2 kittens is def. the weaker of the two, if mama doesn't step in I have very little hope for it. The other, the polydactyl seems like a fighter, caught on to the bottle quickly, more active, pooped twice already.

We did have a big tussle getting Moma into the cage. She still looks huge. How long can they go between kittens? 24 hours? I am willing to call a vet to see her but I don't feel like it will be possible to phsyically examine her at this point. It would pretty much be- look at the big cat in the cage and her poor neglected kittens.

I guess I did the wrong thing last night when I moved them out of the litterbox to put down newspaper. She was nursing fine till then. Let's hope my mistake doesn't cost all the kittens lives.

Maybe a call to the vet is in order... I know it is to much stress to take her there... She will def freak then... How many did she have... The crate might do the trick... Cover it and make it very peacful...

You are doing the best you know to do. If she were outside, on her own, most likely all three kittens would be dead by now, and she would be getting pregnant again right away.

Ferals are such a challenge! I hope she settles down and starts feeding those kits. Thank goodness you got KMR into them so they have a chance! What you are doing is heartbreaking work, but it is so worth it! You are ending a cycle of reproduction for this poor kitty. Prayers the babies are ok.

She didn't accept them. She dropped one in her water dish where it drowned but we got the other one out of her wet food bowl and back inside. The polydactly is still alive, he (?) has been the strongest all along. Had another meal and is napping again. Mom is going to the vet tonight to see if she has a kitten stuck or what is up. Polydactly kitten will stay with us indef. Guess I'll be hand raising a kitten. Wish I had been able to save the siblings too but, if I can save even one I'll be ok.

I just wanted to say thanks for taking care of these cats and good luck with your last kitten and the mom.

If no one has pointed you to it yet, you should check out http://www.kitten-rescue.com

Again, I think what you're doing is great. Please keep posting about your progress.

I'm truly sorry that 2 kittens died...but at least they were better off then had they been outside facing all the dangers out there. Good idea to get mom checked out...and since she has rejected her young....it would be a good idea to have her spayed. Also, don't blame her for her actions....she was simply doing what she felt was best.
