Out of curiosity how do you keep focused?

The majority of this weekend I've been unable to focus on a lot. Only last evening and early this morning I could. Otherwise I just can't. I really haven't driven anywhere since it started Friday on my way home from work.

Heck, even now, I can barely keep attention to what I'm writing!
Whitey's laying in a funny position (body twisted with back legs on the floor, his head facing the opposite way of his hind legs and his front legs bended in the air).

One of my Bible study friends (who graduated two years ago and moved away) once taught me about sucking mint candy during exams because menthol helps people focus.

I tried that, and both of us graduated within three years.

Hmmm, I am horrible. This weekend I was supposed to pack my apartment for moving, clean my car and I didn't do either. I conned my boyfriend to clean my car, and didn't pack at all. I am soooooooo lazy this weekend.

I make lists and try to have a routine. This would be for home and work.
I do laundry on the weekends, clean up kitchen eariler in morning before work.
Since my work is so demanding there are many days I am too tired to do much when I come home. I try to have the truck loaded with my equipment the nite before and remove the stuff I don't need when I come home.
I don't do "bookwork" every day but have folders by the computer to store my receipts, and have acct payable/receivable.
Too me what had always made be stay on task at home is to schedule things in 30-60 minute increments. Like I will pick up the house for 30 minutes. I actually set the timer on the stove. I know then I have a deadline and keep focused. Many times I am almost done with a task or get involved and do not hear the timer go off so I continue on. It sounds weird but it works for me!!

Wow Gail, I'm impressed! I can't seem to get motivated lately. I think it's because I have so much to do that I feel overwhelmed.
So then I end up doing only a little, then feeling worse because all this work just keeps dragging on.
I think the trick is to write a list and then methodically go through it. It feels good to tick things off the list.

Hmmm, me, well I can't.
I am supposed to be writing a paper for school and I can focus on anything but that paper.

Well I think I know what breaks my concentration. Between the cats and my boyfriend, I'm surprised I can focus much anymore.

I.e. I was working well yesterday morning for my Tues. night class. Preparing the presentation, reading the chapters so I know what to go over. Then I made the mistake of wanting lunch. We have so much burger left over from a previous BBQ, but are tired of hamburgers...I went to the store to get Taco stuff.
Then afterwards that when my concentration STOPPED until about 8:30 pm last night.

I make lists like crazy. And then I go do something else...and then I can't get what I wrote out of my head and I'm motivated.

Lists do help me, though...it helps me organize things. I like to set deadlines, too, because it keeps me moving.

I'm horrible at focusing on things too, I'll even make a list, knowing that I'll be lucky if one or two things get done on it, but at least I made a list! Like tonight I absolutely have to mow my lawn- maybe it will rain
and I really need to do dishes also, I will do a load of laundry though.... so out of those 3 things, one will get done
I'm just lazy, the only thing I do without fail is take care of my babies, that i have a routine for, there may be mutiny if I don't do that

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I'll definitely try the lists. Of course, I don't know how I'm going to tell Luna that she's not on "the list" yet if she hops up and prances in front of my computer.

I have the attention span of a 2 year old lately. I am about 3 weeks behind on my paperwork and client charts. I hope my boss doesn't ask for my book any time soon.

Ooo..my boyfriend gave up on his palm pilot (he's a writer rather than a typer), so I'm trying it out now...setting alarms to alert me when I need to focus on soemthing.

I'm sorry Luna, but you're not scheduled for loving and playing until 4 o'clock
