My new kitten is really, really shy, and has only come out from under my bed twice and responded with running back under there once seeing me. Is this normal and is there any way I can make her feel more comfortable? Maybe I'm just used to my other kitten who made herself comfortable right away. . .

My Moe did the same thing when we got her. She hid under our shrunk for the first week and only came out when she thought noone was in the living room. It took her a while but she warmed up to us and the house. Just give her some time.

Just give her time to adjust.

I agree with everyone else...give her some time. New environment and unknown people can make a kitty jumpy. Especially the younger ones or ones that haven't been handled often.

Once she warms up to you handle her (but don't force it) as often as possible.

It'll help her to see you as a nurturing parental subject vs a possible threat or 'just another human'.

Every cat we've taken in has always become very affectionate and loyal. Even our fosters, because we handle them and make sure they know humans are okay.

Thanks, guys! She's already started coming out.

P.S. I'm sorry I've posted so many threads, but being a new kitty owner to two 7 week old kittens prompts lots of questions!
