Under a stack of blueberry waffles.
I love cats, and have one. The neighbor's cats who come by and spray all over my house so that opening the back door blows catpee stench into my kitchen and opening the front wafts pee stench into my livingroom, not so much. Part of why I got my cat fixed was so I wouldn't have to hear a lot of yowling.

Thanks to my neighbor, I hear more howling, shrieking tomcat fights each spring than I care to. I've spoken to her about her clowder of unfixed outdoor males, and she thinks that they do not need to be fixed because they can't have kittens.

Not condoning this guy's actions, but I can understand his point of view. If I could take them to get fixed or to a new home where they aren't loose to yowl and fight under my window at way-too-early-for-that-o-clock, I'd be all over the opportunity sometimes. I know it's not their fault, but they can get very aggravating when I'm trying to sleep after a long day at work, and there's nothing I dislike more than being punished for the irresponsibility of others.

I can't believe that guy is dumping cats. That makes me so mad!!!!!!!!!!
I understand that he doesn't want these cats on his property but there are other, more humane ways of dealing with this problem.

I personally don't find anything wrong with trapping the cats in a humane trap, but I do see the problem in dumping them somewhere the cats are unfamiliar with.

The way I see it, your mom and that man are both terribly in the wrong and if they are going to continue living in the same neighborhood for the next ten years, they're going to have to come up with a reasonable agreement.

I think it is selfish of pet owners to let their animals wonder freely because they have a million excuses why they should. ie. its mean to keep them inside when they want to go out, don't have the money or means to get their pet fixed etc.

Please just do the right thing by your pets and build them the enclouse so they can still be outside and be safe. No excuses.

I agree!!! One of my neighbor's cat (which I actually took care of because they couldn't even afford cat food) got kicked so hard her hip crushed.

Unfortunately what this man did was perfectly legal. When Chester was stolen away from me and sent to a random cat shelter in Houston there was nothing the cops would do.

There are so many things people could do and get away with.

I just want to state two things.

First, not all owners of cats outdoors are neglectful!!! Now, I do think though that if your cats can not stay in thier own yard and are terrorizing your neighbors then the best thing to do is bring them indoors or give them away. All 3 of my outside cats are healthy, clean, and happy. They do not leave the yard, they have thier own private areas in the yard they like to go to etc.

Sorry, I just felt like I needed to say that. I do not want anyone thinking I do not love my cats to the fullest because they and I choose for them to be outside cats
.

Second, this guy sounds like an old redneck jerk. I don't think he will listen, and I don't think he thinks he should be 'bothered' by taking them to non-kill shelters. From the sound of his attitude you are really lucky that he has not taken the matter into his own hands by killing them himself. And to be honest, you don't know if he hasn't done that to someone elses cats
. I think in your moms and her cats best interest is to keep them indoors. I know that sucks and she shouldn't have to bend to that jerk, but it sounds like ya'll don't much of a choice at this point unless you want him to do worse by her cats
.

Well from now on her remaining cats are indoors! We found her one that was missing-DEAD! So thats two hes taken care of.....
I am going to quit talking about it now, before I get myself in any trouble. Thanks to anyone who responded.

One more note-I know it is legal to trap them on his property, but it shouldnt be his responsibilty, IMO. Theres NO way he can prvoe what cat crapped on his lawn-theres tons of strays around there as well....and to take them to a HS would be one thing, but from the looks of the cat we found DEAD today, she appears to be shot.

I know you are upset about what has happened, and I am sorry that you are going through this. I am also very glad to see that the cats will be remaining indoors from now on.

I hate people like this guy!
What a low life-no good man he must be. I think it's very cruel what he's doing, in fact I have this same situation I just noticed occuring at my parent's house. I just noticed a trap next door to where they live, I of course was very upset. My mom also feeds two outside cats. There are many people that have outside cats that are well taken care of, sometimes people are at their limit with how many they already have inside, so they can only manage to feed and care for the other's outside, or take them to a shelter. Which is not always the best solution either, I'm sure many animals would prefer their freedom outside vs. being locked up in a cage at a shelter, although not always the best solution but one they just might prefer if they could speak, I'm sure, and they should have that right.

We certainly will be calling the cops on my parents neighbors, and just pray to god they can do something about this cruelty to animals, as I see it. I know years ago when I called on a similar situation about someone trapping groundhogs (which there are a lot of around PA/NJ] the police came out immediately and said it was illegal, so I hope nothing has changed since then. If not I will have to confront the man myself or do something.........this really gets me angry, whether it's a cat, squirrel, groundhog, etc. I just thinks it's wrong. Leave the poor defenseless animals alone and get a life! Sorry, this post got long but I get very angry about this kind of stuff.

If Macy appears to have been shot, you should take her body to the vet for a necropsy. The police told you so long as he is trapping on his property, but not killing cats, it was legal. Now it appears he killed one.

Get pics of the trap, of Macy's wound, and a vet report. Let the cops know what is happening. Hopefully they can do something now.

I would also encourage your Mom to call the shelter. Let them know what is happening, and see if she can borrow a humane trap to catch the feral cats she has been feeding, and turn them over to the shelter.

Does your Mom have a new litter of kittens? I sure hope the Momcat isn't one of the cats involved in this!

Condolences to you and your Mom in the loss of another cat!

Thank you-this is the latest we have got: He did IN fact "brag" to someone that knows my mom(which he didnt know this) that he poisoned Tigger with anti freeze and water mixed with tuna, and he DID shoot Macy!
Ok-its one thing to wanna "get rid" of the strays or what ever, but the thing is, he really could have ASKED around before he took matters into his own hands! We have talked to the cops several times and basically unless we get a written statement or some type of proof, theres nothing they can do! Ugghh...this is so frustrating!!

I would think that he might have shot Macy IN the trap....if you go past his house again maybe if he has a trap out you could check it for blood? Maybe that could be proof... What a dispicable act, he should be punished for this!!!

Yes Im sure he probly did shoot her in the trap
And the person that talked to my mom told her he washes the cages out and that hes also been doing this in another neighborhood that he also owns a house on. Yes he should be punished for this-but gathering the proof we need is going to be difficult, because the person that told my mom is scared of him!! Hes very mean and has multiple personalities, very scary!! Now my mom just called to tell me that she went home tonite and found her back porch light knocked out! She is gettin a bit worried for her safety as well. She is going to county attorney tomorrow and see if he can be charged with anything at all!! Like he deserves! I guess he also was laughing and joking about killing the cats to this person, and when this person asked him why he let Tigger out, his reply was "shes got enough poison in her" Man I am so sick to my stomach over all of this!!

I am soooooooo terribly sorry for you and your mother's losses.
This man was not in any way trying to get rid of the strays. He is just a creul person and he takes out his rage on animals probably because he doesn't have any power with humans. He is sick and he needs help, and so does anyone else who purposely posions animals.

I would definately tell your mom to watch out for this sicko. If someone were doing this my cats I would be making some anon. pranks to his house to make his life in that neighborhood hell, but that's just me.

I hope you and your mom get your poor kitties some justice!!!

Look up his criminal records. People like that generally have a long list of minor crimes (but no major crimes as witnesses get intimdated easily).

If he has a criminal record, then it would be enough grounds to file a restraining order against him. I don't know how hard it is to do over there, but in Texas it is really easy and you can do it online.

i am so sorry for you and your mothers loss, personally i feel it's safer to keep cats indoors and am glad you and your mother have decided to do this.

i don't however think that people who have outdoor cats are neglectful at all, they are just doing what they feel is best, even if most of us here don't agree.

as for cats going into this mans yard...tough luck, cats have rights too and if the crabby old @#*! has a problem with that then too bad, i swear, if it was my cats he killed he'd want to go into hiding.

i have people's cats in my yard all the time, yes, some of them are annoying but at their worst they aren't even half as annoying as some people iv'e met.

seriously...how much damage can a cat do to someones precious yard? and yes, my cats wonder about cats that hang around too but they aren't going to die of stress from it...maybe curiosity though

sorry, some people are just so pathetic it's not funny

Thank you! Yes not all people are irresponsible that have outdoor cats....my mom has spent money on her cats(spay, shots, etc) and now shes just out the money because of that POS!
He does seriously have some issues, and its too bad that he had to move into her neighborhood! Man we are all so disgusted by this and feel that we are getting no help from the cops. This is such a small town that its like nobody care about animals or anything!
