my baby has been losing fur lately... over her eyes, behind her ears and around her muzzle. last week i took her to the vet for a general health checkup, and he said it could be allergies, scabies or fleas. i only have one cat- and she almost never goes outside- and our living conditions haven't changed one smidgin.

tomorrow i'm taking her back for a scraping test, to find out whether she really has scabies or not. the vet's going to have to sedate her because she's wild in the office; she hates going to the vet and doesn't have a problem telling us about it.

the thing is, her appetite's also steadily declining. mom says she thinks the cat might be unhappy. i've been going to school and coming home on weekends ever since we got her, so i don't know if that has anything to do with her unhappiness. mom and dad go to work from 5 AM and don't come home until at least 7. this week, mom's been taking time before work and after work to cuddle and play with her a while, and i noticed that although she's become skinnier from last week, the baldness she was experiencing has gone away, somewhat. her bald spots are growing more fur.

i'll talk to the vet about the declining appetite, and luckily i'm graduating from college in two weeks, so she'll have me to play with every day- but does it sound like my cat is unhappy, and thus getting sick and not eating?

ah, that. i wasa bit late at my appointment and he was closing... he also said he wanted one more week of observation, to see if she might be getting worse or better.

That veterinarian is ripping you off - another WEEK of observation? Ridiculous. A day or two, maybe, but you can 'observe' her at home yourself if it comes to that. The last vet who did that to me was a very long time ago, and the cat died anyway because no one at the vet's bothered to do anything but feed her and clean the cage.

I think the cat is at home for her to observe, not at the vet's.

I would be very worried about her declining appetite. I hope your learn what's making her feel bad.
