I am getting a new kitten from a local breeder I know in a few days. Rather than just pay the Vet $45 for a fecal test for worms, is there any problem with just having the Vet give the kitten a deworming pill?

That is what we did at the shelter I worked at and the vets I go to do. I don't see why not and I would do that too. Just make sure the breeder didn't just give them a wormer. From my experience, many breeders vaccinate and worm their babies before selling them. So I think that is something a responsible breeder should do. Is she a real breeder or just someone who doesn't spay or neuter their cats?

I foster, and our kittens and cats are always up to date on shots, etc. However, we still advise that each cat sees their own vet within a week of being adopted. That is what I would recommend.

$45 for a fecal seens a little high. My vet sees cats for $35! You might want to call around to see if someone else is more reasonable, unless there is a good reason for seeing that particular vet!
