I basically just use every machine in the gym except the weird ones that the men always use. And, for cardio, I either do the bike, stair gauntlet, treadmill on an incline or Elliptical.

I know I have no system of what I'm doing because I don't really know what to do. I am just trying to lose a few pant sizes really.
I love the Elliptical!

Ever since I've gone to the gym and started using it on a regular basis, I've gone done a pants size, I love that machine!

In my case, I don't eat very well, at all, like I rotate fast food places
so whenever I decide that I'm going to eat healthier and actually cook at home and eat healthy food, I gain! I swear, every single time
I also do NOT work out or anything, and granted as a result I'm little, shall we say, thick
But I'm happy, I'm fairly healthy, and yes I go to the doctor, so I know I am, and really have no desire to change
I would love to lose a few lbs, but I'm just lazy. Also I'm one of those people who isn't meant to be skinny either, and thats not a cop-out. I'm 5'7" and wear about a size 18, the lowest weight I ever got was 155 and I wore a size 10 and my mother told me I looked horrible, like I was sick
I love myself and that is what really matters I guess, cause no matter what you look like on the outside, you're always going to be the same inside.... extra fancy wrapping paper doesn't make a great present any better, does it?

That's ok that you don't know the names of the machines.
My guess is that the kind of muscle you're hoping to attain is long, lean, sinewy muscle. The kind that makes a girl look fit and thin at the same time. Generally the machines are going to be building your muscles up as they tend to require more weight and less repetitions. Does your gym offer group exercise classes? If they do, here are some suggestions of classes you may want to look into:

Any class that offers total body strengthening. These kinds of classes are designed with low weight and high repetition, this kind of weight work out serves to tone muscle more than continually build it up.

If you have a class called On The Ball or know of a class that utilizes the exercise balls throughout the entire class, I HIGHLY recommend it to any woman attempting to get a leaner look. This strength building class will give you a great core workout (your entire ab area) and will be lengthening those muscles, causing them to look leaner and tighter.

Pilates or Yoga are two other fantastic classes to look into. Both will give you that lean muscle you're probably looking for and will tighten what muscle you've got. Yoga, obviously, will give you increased flexibility which is also another important aspect of health that is often overlooked and the poses will help to, once again, lengthen your muscles.

If you don't have group ex classes offered, I have plenty of ideas of things you can do on your own, but my experience is that the classes are the best way to get a total body workout, and the instructors will be more than happy to help you out with any questions you may have about fitness and what might work best for what your goal is.

Good luck to you.

Wow thanks for your advice
I really appreciate it. My gym does have group classes, but I'm always afraid to go into them because its all the same ladies that go and they all know eachother...AND they know the routine and I will be a bumbling idiot

Ooooh, another thing... dimpling in the thighs is cellulite. And I HATE to tell you but it's genetic. Your pre-disposed to either getting it or not getting it. And I've seen girls that are a size 1 and 2 with cellulite.... so don't feel bad. I'm a size 12, and I'd die to be 125lbs again! I'm sure you look FABULOUS!!! And your just picking yourself apart! It's great that you go to the gym like you do...how I envy your dedication and will power! Keep up the good work!

Same here. My only form of dieting is to cut back on fatty foods when I find myself eating them too often. Your weight gain sounds like musle to me. Weight can be a terrible indicator of health/fitness in some cases.

How tall are you by the way?
Has you clothing size changed at all or stayed the same?

I wouldn't be too afraid of those other ladies in the workout classes. Sure they may know the routine, but they may be able to give you some tips too and you can meet new people!

One lady I work with just started this class called Boot Camp. She has to be there by 5:45 am (I know UGH!), but they work you out just like you're in training. Now THAT will really burn the cals, fats and carbs!

Yea I would try one of the classes. Unfortunately not all workouts help all body types.
Have you thought about getting a trainer? Maybe even just for one or two sessions? Then they can get you started on the right path.

You're 5'6" and you're only 125 pounds? Seriously, I think you're being too hard on yourself. My expert calculations equate your height and weight to being smoking hot!!!
Plus, I saw a photo of you in the pictures thread that backs that up.

Well we all change bodywise in life....

this maybe WAY OFF, but have you had your thyroid checked? It could be off and therefore making you gain.

I have never thought of having it checked. I'm sure my doctor would suggest it if she thought there was a problem wouldn't she?
