That Fresian is just breathtaking. I love that breed as well.
I LOVE Standardbreds! If we had more of them for adoption on the west coast I so would want one!!I have always loved horses since I was little. I finally got one, I have had him for a year and a half. He is a 5-6 year old standardbred gelding. Nikadeamus is such a sweet and gentle boy, my three year old rides with me, and helps brush him, and he is always careful of her.
We have a Friesian/Arab sport horse [she's out of Voltaire] at the barn. She's gorgeous, her owners know squat [people with waaaay too much money] so she'll be ruined before she's 5 no doubt, but she's got the gorgeous Friesian movement. I really like them, the way they move and their immense about of hair growth [hehehe] not too wild about the long back, but temperment wise they are just mellow and nice. Even this cross mare, she's 4 and VERY laid back, she tolerates her owners pulling her mouth and being stupid REALLY well, something my mare would never mentally be able to handle. I would never pay $40,000 for a good temperment, but they are definitley one of the most quiet breeds I have met where all of them are quiet, and definitley beautiful.I have loved horses since I was born! My absolute favorites are the draft horses, particularly the Fresian. I will own one someday. They are beautiful. I like the really huge draft horses too and Arabians.
Leasing is AWESOME. My first horse started out at a lease... I got so much horse expirience from her! Leasing is definitley an awesome thing if you can't afford the entire horse. I learned a lot about the responsibilities of owning a horse... and if anyone ever gets the chance to do a lease... go for it.used to ride when I was younger.... 4H and everything. I even did shows a little. I never had my own, we part leased one for 3-4 days a week from my girlfriend who had 6 horses. I loved it. And wish I could still do it... those rock hard thighs I used to have have somehow turned into blubber...
No your horses are beautiful!! And most importantly they are yours!! I wish I could say that fresian was mine!Originally Posted by celestialrags
I thought my horse is pretty, then jen goes and puts that fresian up, my horse looks a little wimpy after looking at him don't he(yeah right)
I just wanted to set you at ease that my daughter now rides with a helmet. Sorry about the "bare-head" photo. We had an incident that my daughter witnessed where the girl would have been dead without the helmet, and we bought one the next day!Originally Posted by Zoe'n'MissKitty
I love 'em.I am lucky enough to have an Arabian, my mare Leana who I've had since I was 14. She's getting "old", but you can't tell her that. lol
Here she is:
Here is her friend, Cloud, my dad's horse. She's a Tennessee Walker. They live at his farm, and they are best buddies.
BTW, I hate to be a spoil sport, but all these pictures of bare heads on horseback are making me nervous. I've been messing with horses since before I can remember, I haven't been thrown in years, and I NEVER get on a horse without a skid-lid.
I've seen first-hand just how dangerous riding without one can be...I watched a girl get thrown into a fence post head-first. It smashed her helmet into several peices, and knocked her unconscious. She'd have been brain-damaged or maybe even dead without the helmet.
That wasn't aimed at you...it was just a general warning to anyone who gets on a horse.Originally Posted by kluchetta

Oh, no, that's cool. A lot of the kids in this organization don't wear them, and of course some people say they are more "dangerous" than not wearing them. But if you ask any of the adults who've been around the group for a while, all their kids wear them! I don't think when I was riding they even "had" helmets, LOL!Originally Posted by Zoe'n'MissKitty

Good for your daughter.I refused to wear one when I was a teen...even after my mom hit her head on the arena wall and because of her helmet, didn't even have a headache. I wised up after high school, though. lol
I think they even make Western helmets now, that look like bulky cowboy hats with chin straps. Now if only they'd let the saddle-seat and upper-level dressage riders use them in shows....
