Okay so I have to admit that I am slightly embarrassed that I have to post this. I was in the process of wrapping a gift for a friend of mine and my little one Bit decided that that would be a dandy time to play with the tape dispenser. Bit now has tape wrapped around is whiskers on both sides. Imagine a gray kitten with a tape beard if you will. Should I cut his whiskers?

If I pull on the tape it will pull out the whiskers. I'm trying to track down a website right now to see what to do. I don't think that I want to call the vet on this. She may thing that I am an idiot.

Please do not cut the whiskers. Buy some crisco shortening- the white lard, place enough on the tape to coat the whole area well where the tape is. Wait ten minutes, take a warm damp cloth and swipe the whiskers. The tape should dislodge and come off leaving the whiskers intact.

I used some peanut butter and the tape slid right off. I did call the vet and she said that she gets that call about twice a month. Now I feel better, and I don't have to nick name my cat Mr Short Wiskers. I just wish my digital camera was working so I could have posted the pics.

Good job on removing the tape, I did not have good of luck with duct tape stuck to my guys face. I had something similar happen to one of my Bengals in which I simply cut his whiskers. They grew back very fast. Both mine are house cats and they could do without measuring themselves for as long as it took to grow back. Obviously don't pull them out for they are deep rooted. Whiskers serve as feelers or radar or antenna. Cats use their whiskers to feel objects around them. Cat’s whiskers automatically grow to the width of the cat. A fat cat will have very long whiskers while skinny cats will have shorter whiskers. When a cat is trying to walk through an opening or crawl into something, their whiskers will tell the cat if the opening is wide enough. If the edges of the opening touch the whiskers, the cat will not crawl through.

It's just cutting hair it's not like it's declawing them or something. A once in a life time whisker trim does not effect the cat negitively.

Trout would freak right out if this happened to her..she'd probably tear her own whiskers out trying to get the tape off. She is a Spazz.
