I have 2 kittens and an already-cuddly mom for the last couple of months. (The kittens were born in my house because I am fostering the mom.) Anyway, I want them to be more affectionate with me.

Sometimes it seems like hit or miss; as in, one day they'll curl up and sleep beside/on top of me, and then a week will go by with them more or less ignoring me.

I'm worried that I'm away too much at work. I work full time now, but for the first 5 weeks of their lives, I was at home all day to take care of them. I think they were more cuddly then.

Anyway, how do I bond with them and get them to nap on my lap and stuff?

Well, since they're kittens, it's good that you're spending time with them to socialize them, BUT, since they're kittens, they are going to want to play! lol-they're just babies full of energy, so they aren't always going to want to cuddle! lol-Maybe you could cuddle with them when they're tired and practically asleep though! lol!
Hope I helped!
PS-when they're asleep you could try to move them to your lap too!
lol!

You cannot turn every cat into a lap cat. You should accept them for their personalities. Just like a child, each is different.

Ling is NOT a lap cat. Would be nice if she was but she is the most independent cat I've owned. She sits on your lap to be petted on HER terms, not our terms. We accept her personality.

I agree with Golden. You can't MAKE a cat be a cuddler. They are what they are. You can make them very social most times though. If they are around a lot of people from the start they are less likely to run and hide from company. Cats do what tehy want when they want, not what you want when you want them to!!

I got my first two at eight weeks and they are awesome lap cats. Whether by nature or by design I don't know, but this is what I did...

I never approached them to try and cuddle- I only pet when they come to me. That said, I keep secret jars of treats next to my sitting areas, and each time a kittie came to see me they got pets and a molecule of treat. I did this only in the initial weeks- now they get a treat very infrequently, but often enough to keep it in their memory.

Cats will be cats- sometimes they are in the mood and sometimes they aren't. But by not pushing it and making each visit positive you can go a long way towards steering their behavior.

I find that if I give kittens a little time every day - a half hour or so, just petting and cuddling, and then playing as well, that helps some. Also, they are sort of in their toddler/terrible-two age probably. They are pretty terroristic at that age, LOL!

Personally I have always found that cats will be as they wish, not as you think they should. Mine is very cuddly, but I treated him normally, with lots of petting and playing. If you play with them often, they may be very tired and come to cuddle more.

OK, so I tried the treat thing. Every time they came over, I gave them a little peice of chicken.

Wow, did that ever work fast! Now they are all over me, playing and napping and staring at me while hanging out upside down, etc. etc.

Seems like the problem has been solved! They even stick around and take naps after I've given them the treat!
