This is one cat I'd love to say was fat. But..he never was, he has always been a sleek panther of a Curl.
Yay Tyler!! Keep up that eating sweetheart!

Any chance you could share some pics of Tyler?

Just heard from my vet (told her to go home, it's 8 pm and they closed at either 6 or 7 tonight!)

Tyler's T4 is still way too high
It did come down to 4.14 (from over 5) but is still way above normal, especially for an old kitty.

So, we are again increasing his dose of methimazole. His Bun shifted up to 40, but creatine is still normal, liver values remained normal for the second time in a row.

However, I told her about his lose of appetite again, that I'd had to begin feeding him again end of last week, his several instances of odd colored stool, and she recommended we not wait re doing an u/s (we were going to wait to do see if his T4 responded to this last dose she's willing to raise him to).

So...either late this week or next, Tyler will have an u/s...and I hope we get an answer that isn't incurable or awful.

I really, really want him not to be terminally ill with some bizarre cancer

Pat, I'm crossing fingers and paws that this interlude w/not eating will just pass or be attributed to the meds. Sammy tested at .77 for T4, he barely is even showing a thyroid and I worry about all kinds of things with him. What bodes well is his liver coming in clean - that's really good. What is his white blood cell count? Do you know?

We've just been checking T4, liver and kidney values for the repeats, I honestly don't think we did a cbc with the initial that showed his T4 being off. I'll ask next time I speak with her. Hopefully, we'll have that u/s this week..I wanna know what's going on, and fix it!

Thanks guys. I know it will sound, oh I don't know, but I've been so blessed with having exceptionally special cats...Tyler is another one. The cat I travelled the most with, the kitten who chose me in his litter, who I never meant to keep, but it was meant to be. His littermate brother flipped up an ear 1-1/2 weeks before his show debut (at Madison Square garden), so Tyler was showed and a many year career began with a number of breed firsts in more than one association.

My dapper panther has always been reserved, his only friend was Joshua(RB), his one arch enemy was Patrick, a pure case of each one wanting all my attention.

It was something to see them in their elder years - instead of a fur pulling, throat biting fight (always broken up so that the worse that ever happened was Patrick had some wet fur in the throat area), they'd stare, both raise a paw at each other, then walk away. My two (not) grumpy old men.

Adore Tyler...want his last years to NOT be about apts and tests and medications.

Hi there,
I was reading your thread about Tyler and just wanted to let you know I am sending thoughts and prayers your way! I have a cat in kindney failure and I work PT at a cat retirement home where there are several with CRF as well, so I know how hard it all can be.

Is he still vomiting?

Has your vet ever had you use Famotidine? My cat and several of the ones where I work are on it and it has made a huge difference in decreasing/eliminating the vomiting that CRF cats get.

It's OTC - Pepcid AC 10mg tablets. 1/4 tab=2.5mg, once a day. See what your vet thinks and good luck!

Thank you for your note. I am so sorry about your kitty. I wish I could say that this was my first time dealing with crf, but I just lost Patrick this past March, he and I dealt with his crf for almost 4 years. Pepcid was most definitely Patrick's friend

Tyler's vomitting was abrupt, copious, included even the water he was drinking, just wasn't typical crf related bit of vomitting..turned out to be his system reacting to a high T4. That is our main battle right now, his T4 keeps rising even though he's already on medication for hyperthyroidism and even though we keep increasing the dose. This last time he did decrease, but only slightly,he is still having a way too high result. And...with hyperthyroidism that is not under control, he should have a whomping appetite..he has little to none. So....something is going on, we just have to figure out exactly what.

If you've never seen this site, please check out www.felinecrf.org - it is the best site I found re CRF, and extremely accurate, and up to date.

Good luck with your kitty - a number of TCS members have had or currently have kitties with crf, so you'll get lots of support here

I have everything crossed that he doesn't have anything incurable.
