I went over and saw the kittens tonite @ John's Mom's. When she had them, she had them on the bed in the basement - and then about 3 days later, she moved them to the floor on a blanket - she has now moved them, again - onto the bed. What worries me, is that now that she has moved them onto the bed again - they are starting to walk around, they have opened their eyes, and they are walking all over the place, I am really concerned that one or more of them will end up falling off the bed
and he/she won't be able to get back up, or the mother kitty won't notice he/she is gone.

Another concern - when do they start eating and drinking kitty food and water, and using the litter box? I worry about that as well, because the litter box that the Momma Kitty uses is clear across the room in the basement, and they have been keeping her food at the top of the steps.

I just REALLY want to make sure that when they are ready to start using that stuff, they have full access to it all, and don't have to walk across a basement to use it. The basement is dark and gloomy, and they only use it for storage and laundry.

Is there anything I can do for them? Move the food, water, litter box closer? They are 2 weeks old as of yesterday - I just want to make sure that they learn how to do all this stuff without any problems. I just don't have access to the kittens 24/7, as they are at John's Mom's, which is about 2 miles away.

Any help would be great, I just want to make sure that these kittens are kept safe and are properly fed.

Thanks

I would try to put a box on the bed with higher sides for now and hope mom moves them back to the floor. Also put food, water and litterbox in the same room as mom! Babies will watch mom and in another couple weeks try it out for themselves.

I'll have to do that - the owners aren't doing anything

I just worry about the kittens in a basement like that, with no one really watching out for them

Litterbox and food need to be closer, babies learn by watching momma. They won't start using it until 4-6 weeks but they should still watch.
Make sure they are using non-clumping litter, and get disposable lasagna pans for the babies to use.

Is it possible to disassemble the bed, so it's just a mattress on the floor or something. I really do think they will fall off.
